Updated FTS 4/1/18

Day211.jpg

So I have been a member here for a while but haven't done one of these because my tank is probably around 10+ years old. I have been keeping Marine fish for about 25 yrs now. Seeing as my old tank support cracked and everyone was moved into a 40B that was to be my new basement sump, I figured I would start a tank thread.

Here's my old tank

Then this happened

I moved everyone to my 40B rescue tank

I bought an unused 90G off Craigslist and began the long process of starting to build my new tank.
90GTank.jpg

I had the tank drilled and bought a Glassholes 1500 overflow kit. I also bought another 40B to start my sump build.
Here's the finished product:

Also started the plumbing although I was waiting for the sump to be finished before I proceeded any further.

This is where I stand at the present time. The next few weeks are going to be a little slow for progress as time is limited.

Equipment so far:
Reef Octopus Classic 150SS
Current eFlux 3170 return pump
(2) Aqua Illumination Hydra 26 LEDs
(2) Hydor Korallia 1150 pumps

More updates to come :)

Oh wow. But the 40B looks nice too. I'm working to start my first saltwater tank with a 40B also but still on the learning process.

OK Vacation is coming to a close and I should be doing some more on the plumbing this weekend. I did have a large breakout of aiptasia that I was trying to get some peppermint shrimp to take care of but they were not doing the job. I resorted to Aiptasia-X and wiped them out yesterday. I found a few stragglers this morning and hit them. Now to watch for any more that might pop up

Got the drain plumbed from the overflow and through the floor. Return is about the same except I need a couple elbows to finish it. I still need to figure out a stand for the sump as the stand I built for it is now being used for the rescue tank and I'm out of wood. Don't really want to build another one but am unsure what to do besides that... :(

Will post a couple pics of plumbing tomorrow if I get a chance

Update and question:

Plumbing is done but I need to ask, should I have gone 90 + 90 on the drains? Is the 45+45 going to be fast of a flow?

Pics for reference

I can do another 45 on top and another 45 at the bottom to accomplish this with little waste, but want the imput... Please

Got 1/2 my scape done. Using Marco Rock and waiting on a pedestal for the other side. Then I can get it wet.

OK so I couldn't wait any longer. I had to get it wet, so started adding RODI to test plumbing and tank. Up to 70 gallons right now but still need another 30-35 to fill tank and sump.
Pic at about 55 gal

One of the rescue tank, everyone still going strong and healthy. Actually starting to get coraline algae in the overflow.

I made a cover for my sump out of 1/4" acrylic and I think it came out pretty good. Although one piece broke straight across, still looks OK.

Also day 12 of cycle pic. Still waiting on Marco Rocks to get back up and running to get a good size pedestal for right side.
Added a dozen small hermit crabs a few days ago but can't see them in the pic. It looks like I am starting to get some diatoms on top rock.

Day 17 update: I finally added some rock to the other side although I could not get any response from MarcoRocks.
I couldn't wait any longer to get the other side done and cycling. I got a couple pieces locally of the same rock that I think will suffice... Thanks to FishMike Aquatics

How's it look?

Tested parameters today

Temp - 79
Salinity - 1.024
[Red Sea]
pH - 8.2
Ammonia - 0.2
Nitrates - between 2+5
dKH - 8
[API]
Phosphate - 0

Looks like everything is going in the right direction.

Moved one of my Hydor's to this tank from rescue tank. Had to really scrub it to get any traces of algae off. I didn't want to put any into this tank that doesn't start here.

Tank never really got cloudy after adding salt and sand. Even after adding the new rock, I expected it to get a little cloudy but it didn't...
