Gate Valve mod

hey im planning on doing a gate valve mod on my euro reef cs6-1

question: When i T off the exit then from the T goes the gate valve and off the top of the T goes a straight pvc pipe or i still need the riser tube ?

basically do i still need the riser tube or just a solid pvc vent tube​

Solid PVC will be fine. It's just there to give you back pressure to raise the water level in the skimmer. When you close the valve the water level in the PVC will rise and that will bring the level in the skimmer up. Just make sure it's tall enough for your highest level.
