Important to note…since Fungus in an aquarium are opportunistic water molds, arent the spores present in the environment, and they generally take advantage of damaged, injured, or stressed, tissue?I ask becasue im beginning to see a pattern. The trigger had a bad lessions around his nose area for some months before it finally healed. Any fungal spore could have affected and ultimately manifested in these growths. No? The hippo’s always seem to have some erosion around the nose areas. I have 4 of them and they all have it. It would mAke sense why they might be impacted and not so much other fish. What do you think?

Paragaurd dip for 1 hr at 3ml/gallon is recommended for fungal. Open to other suggestions

I dont know of any vet in miami area that would do a biopsy. Im going to treat the golden in qt for fungal and see what happens. What’s best med?

I’ve used formalin dips for the two cases I’ve worked with and it worked well. However, formalin is difficult to source and toxic to humans.

The dose I used was 75 ppm formalin in seawater with good aeration for 45 minutes.

I can walk you through the dose if you decide to do that.

Maroxy claims it is for fungal diseases, but it hadn’t worked well for me.

O.K., first thing, you need pure formalin, that is 37% formaldehyde gas in water. Be sure the container has no white precipitate at the bottom. You cannot use 10% NBF

To make a 75 ppm solution, add 0.30 ml for formalin to each gallon of water to be used in the dip. Add good aeration and then add the fish. I'd do this in a garage or something. Use good PPE. After 45 minutes, return to the fish to the tank. Any improvement should begin the next day.

I would dip the trigger first as they are pretty tough......

I’m only doing trigger to see if it works before trying hippos.

Is only 1-45m dip needed? Thx!

I did two dips, 48 hours apart on the two fish I tried this on.

Formalin may also give some temporary relief if this turns out to be protozoans or even metazoans (unlikely). It won’t help much if this is bacterial or viral.

After 45m formali bath, I am seeing one of the “warts” starting to dislodge. I know you said wait 48 hours for the next bath but he seemed to tolerate it well so perhaps another one tonight then wait 48 hrs if needed? Thoughts

I wouldn't bunch the dips up like that - wait at least 24 hours between them. The dislodging *may* have just been mechanical loosening from the capture of the fish?
