Goldenback trigger brown calcified growthspots

I have been working trying to get the pictured growths treated properly and all that has happened is their continued spread as can be seen. Have tried Enrofloxacin, Kanamycin and even KAna/metro/NF combo and nothing has worked. He’s been in QT during treatment. Any idea what is this and what’s proper treatment? Is it contagious? Continues to progress. Thx

I’ve seen those “plaques” before, but it was a long time ago.

I can’t tell, are they raised up?
How fast are they spreading?
On both sides of the fish?
Do you have a microscope?

They are raised and hard to touch
That growth has happened over 3-4 months
Yes both sides. The other side has less growth
Yes have a microscope although not very good at it

Does the fact that it’s been treated heavy by broad spectrum bacteria meds narrow it down a bit? He continues to eat well.

Yes, the antibiotic use tends to rule out bacteria. The lack of other symptoms is a good sign.

I dont think this is fungal or parasitic, but if it were my fish, I would do a wet mount skin scrape and look at it under a microscope. I do understand that takes some experience to do safely though.

I think this is some sort of cellular growth - like psoriasis is in people. Could be environmental or viral.

I looked up the case I remember from before, it was cancer…..

I can’t think of a treatment to try. I really don’t think this is going to spread to other fish - but do you have any other triggers in the tank?

He’s in qt w/ harlequin tusk. No signs on tusk. Hes been in qt for months. Thinking whether to add to 00 now or if ever where there is another trig.

Thinking whether it’s time to add Golden trigger to 800g if it’s not contagious. That does have another trigger in it (linespot).

IDK - I have an opinion, but without a definitive diagnosis, there is some risk.

I suppose you could give it a 5 minute FW dip and then watch it for a few days to see if the lesions change. If they do, that indicates possible presence of parasites that are creating that plaque. But then, there is also a slight risk with doing FW dips…..

The consensus of some who know much more than me seems to be “pigmented papilloma” or warts. They can stay or drop off. Not effecting her normal behavior and has shown no signs of being contagious. Other then not being very attractive, should live a rather normal life. Just thought I’d close the loop. Thx

Just like a wart, it grows a bit here or there. There dont seem to be anymore growing.

Looks like these lessons are contagious as they now appeared in 2 hippo tangs

The golden is just an update today. I’m at my wits end …..any ideas please?

Wow - I’ve never seen that. Without doing a biopsy, I’m not sure how to figure out what this is….and if it has a viral component, then even a microscopic biopsy isn’t going to help.

Is the trigger’s lesions still stable?

They expanded some weeks ago but have been standard since . Since I thought they weren’t contagious I moved the trigger to another large tank. None showing signs after weeks of exposure but it took a long time before the hippos showed anything in the original tank. I’m now contemplating putting him back to original tank where there’s already infection in other fish.

A biopsy would tell you if these are fungal. Fungal infections in marine fish, I’ve only seen a couple of cases myself - but they were brown colored. However, both cases started with a point injury.
