It's been 4 weeks since I started my tank amonia is being converted nitrites are still high is there anything I can do to help this, or is it just patience, nitrates were high but added nitrate reducer from instant ocean which helped.

I wouldn't worry about nitrate until nitrite is zero on your test kit. If you didn't cure the rock before putting in the tank, you are probably right on track. You can try adding Bio Spira or another bacteria based product to help with the cycle. If you are seeing the cycle happen though, I would say just let it go.

And without any living thing in tank yet my filter socks are getting brown fast, maybe algae?
