Help please!! ASAP!!

I have a volitan lionfish got cloudy eyes over night? Water is good, feeding live minnows. Only thing different is I bought rock online, rinsed them off before putting in the tank. Is he just molting or what do I do?

What are ypur parameters, ammonia, etc. A quick change in levels can cause this or something bacterial maybe?

What size tank? How long has it been up and running? What kind of rock?. I put some rock in a 20 gallon once and almost killed all the fish in the tank. Guessing the rock composite stole all the oxygen. I even soaked the rock in rodi for a week then saltwater for a week.

Lion fish do molt bout once a month which is normal, they do this to shed parasites etc. it usually takes a day or 2 to finish shedding this layer. More frequent molting can be a sign of internal parasite. Has the lionfish been shaking at all? this behavior tends to be more toward molting. Hope this helps

No he hasn’t been looking weird or anything until this morning which is when I took the picture. I added more rockwork last night. Dry rock from a florida vendor. He looked perfect until this morning.

It’s a 40 gallon breeder tank. He’s still on the smaller side and seems to enjoy his environment until I added brand new dry rock.

Assure the water is not high in nitrates and ammonia which mimics parasitical issues. The molting generally last 2-3 days and appears as a white stringy, or cloudy mucous and fiber like. If it lasts longer, then may be an indicator of parasites or other disease issues

Those eyes are very cloudy, more than is usual if the fish is shedding its mucus layer. Also, the fins are folded, that can be the sign of an ill lionfish.

Is the lion still eating?
Can you post a video so that I can judge its respiration rate?
Are there other fish in the tank, how are they doing?

I’ll post a video as soon as I get home. I have a large blue banded butterfly in with him for company and he’s doing perfect.

The lionfish is not eating. I bought some crappie minnows from the bait shop to feed him Until I can make it to the LFS and he only ate one and that was 2 or 3 days ago.

I would not feed minnows, bait or feeder goldfish which often carry disease. Rosy reds or mollies are best

I usually feed him Rosie reds but my lfs is about 60 miles away and was in a pickle

He’s the same as yesterday but my butterfly that was with him was fine last night and dead this morning what looked like his scales were falling off.
