I'll keep sending him photos of my reef locally to hopefully keep the spark going so he doesn't leave for good.
Yeah. The coral whisperer has to come back. Get a tiny waterbox! They’re amazing!!!!

What’s up R2R! How I’ve missed you! Just built a tank today! High-tech planted unfortunately but I’m still excited to learn a new hobby within the aquarist hobby.

Filter-Oase biomaster thermo 250
Heater-Oase whatever wattage was included with the filter.
Light- twinstar 600s w/ dimmer
Controller- Kasa smart bar & ranco
Hard scape- seiryu stone, la plata sand, uns contasoil normal black topped with black fine in areas
Co2-UNS regulator, 5lb tank

waiting for my crystal input and output line, thinking of an inline co2 diffuser to

I know the scape isn’t competition quality but it actually took me a fair amount of time and consideration. I moved rocks around every day for almost two weeks until I settled/was satisfied.

Happy to be back here! I hope you don’t mind me posting occasional high tech fw stuff.

Dope! Looks great

What have you thought about livestock?

I started in freshwater but never got a CO2 canister which I now consider a virtual necessity for planted tanks.

Thanks man! Going to do some sort of tetras, shrimp, licorice gourami maybe, still trying to figure it out. Uncommon tetras and ‘designer’ shrimp for sure.
Co2 does seem necessary if you want the dense planted look that most people are going for.

My only advice is don't put any jungle vals in there, they grow super fast and super long blades (like 6 feet long)

Lol sounds good! That is long! Trying to keep everything very small to stay with the diorama/canyon style I was going for. Hopefully it doesn’t turn out to bad.

Man, i just now realized when I got a notification about a post from you in you thread that I hadn’t seen you around for ages.

It sucks that you had to break down that beauty of a tank but hopefully it can lead to bigger and better things down the line!

Oh yeah and freshwater...heretic!

Lol just the freshwater for now. Stupid rule here that I can’t have a tank over 20gals. My eyes also needed a break from the blue. I’ll be back reefing in no time. I still have 80% of my equipment.

Welcome back and hope you will succeed with your new hobby that´s much more challenging than salt water - IMO. Some tips - with a planted tank and carbon dioxide adding - the stability of the tank and stability of the nitrification process demand that you before you start to ad CO2 rise the alkalinity up to around 3-4 dKH but use no limestone. Bicarbonate is a excellent tool. The advise that not use limestone in planted tank is because of the calcium - not the carbonate. A very dense planted tank will also create an environment with swing in oxygen levels and a good circulation and movement of the surface can be necessary - you do not have any skimmers. Of tradition - you can read about low flow for planted tank but if I would start that now - I would use a small wavemaker and try to get a wave pattern in the tank. Here in Europe - many freshwater shrimp aquarists use small oxidators - just in order to manage the oxygen levels during night time.

Sincerely Lasse
