What cracks me up is if I showed a tank with plastic ornaments people would scoff, but if I said, “It’s my QT tank.” They would all say “Oh, never mind, it’s totally cool.”

I feel ya haha. Lol the slow die, that’s so accurate. The F word in the highest of decibels possible. I can’t control my anger but I don’t hit. The corals took awhile to die. SPS like to give that slow die off. So you can watch them die for days.
I had to toss in ice and ice packs from the freezer and I probably dropped the salinity quite a bit which probably didn’t help. Fortunately I had some extra mixed water ready to correct it.
Oh yea... was that the plywood build? That’s the one! Yeah. Some people just drop off. There was an epic tank crash and I feel so bad criticizing this guy... maybe you saw it. He had a monster tank that’s like 400+ gallons or something. Built in his basement. He would jump in the water to rearrange his rocks and stuff (I hate putting my arms all the way in). Then he had a huge ich outbreak. Then got things back up and running and then a fire broke out from his wiring.
I’ve got a friend breaking down his Reefer tmrw. So I’m getting a bunch of free acros, staghorn, monti, birdsnest and other stuff. I like not paying. But if I paid $100 a frag and watched them die, I’d have a heart attack in the process.I feel ya haha. Lol the slow die, that’s so accurate.
LOL literally what I did when I looked at that link to Victoria’s thread!! HahahhaWhat cracks me up is if I showed a tank with plastic ornaments people would scoff, but if I said, “It’s my QT tank.” They would all say “Oh, never mind, it’s totally cool.”
That’s exactly the one. It was kind of funny though. Because the guy was cocky about it. I don’t think he knew what he was doingOh yea... was that the plywood build?
I also haven’t seen the guy who made the 1000+ gal tank in his garage. It was leaking like a month in and he dropped off the grid. Dumped a fortune into that tank it seemed.
That is awesome! I had edited my post to note that too. LOL!LOL literally what I did when I looked at that link to Victoria’s thread!! Hahahha
Lol yea for real. He was talking like this was his 100th one he’s made lol. That’s exactly the one. It was kind of funny though. Because the guy was cocky about it. I don’t think he knew what he was doing
He put fish in and water in at same time. He put soooo much money in it. And the fire was the cherry on top. I’m looking for it. Can’t find it. Any other threads about ppl messing up that are funny?Lol yea for real. He was talking like this was his 100th one he’s made lol.
Lol it is tragic. I can’t imagine owning the home, prob not having an insurance rider to cover aquariums, then flood your finished basement with 400+ gallons of cycling tank water, and a fire. That’s bad. My wife would leave me for sure lol.He put fish in and water in at same time. He put soooo much money in it. And the fire was the cherry on top. I’m looking for it. Can’t find it. I hear ya. Yeah a lot of ppl go all out and they’re buying the best equipment and everything. And then they skip crucial steps and lack experience for what they’re trying to do. There was one guy that kept posting about his fish dying. Everyone pointed out that his bioload was too high. As fish died, he kept getting more and more fish and an anemone. Haven’t heard back from that guy. I think they don’t listen, get over confident, reply on their freshwater skills and then everything dies and they give up.Lol it is tragic. I’ve seen a few funny ones but it’s only funny because the Op’s are so over confident and/or put all their trust in hobby tech like an apex.
Any time I see acro colonies die though it breaks my heart more than fish strangely.
I forgot about that one! There was another one with a dude who liked to swim in his tank. 400+gal inwall plywood build in his basement. Pretty sure it was a complete catastrophe flood.Monster Build - 1100g ish plywood build
Did you have any lip for the glass to fit into or does it just sit on the bottom and cover the whole side? How did you brace the 8' side?www.reef2reef.com
This one...
Very true. I’ve found its best to forget everything I learned and did in FW, nothing really translates over the same. The longer I held on to that old knowledge and tried to find correlations to implement those methods in reefs the more I struggled. There are a few similarities but not stuff noobs should be concerned about.I hear ya. Yeah a lot of ppl go all out and they’re buying the best equipment and everything. The only similarity is there’s water and fish involved. FW is just soooo different. I never could keep planted tanks healthy. They’re a beast on their own. I think the problem with most of my freshwater tanks was using tap as opposed to starting with RO/DI. My tap is like 2 ppm PO4.The only similarity is there’s water and fish involved. Wow that’s really high. I believe PO4 isn’t that dangerous for fish right? But at 2ppm... wowI think the problem with most of my freshwater tanks was using tap as opposed to starting with RO/DI. My tap is like 2 ppm PO4.
I started to use LC to lower it later on, but the Black Hair Algae was already firmly in place. On the bright side, TDS was around 37.Wow that’s really high. I believe PO4 isn’t that dangerous for fish right? But at 2ppm... wow
Looks really nice. Piranha and African cichlids? I did freshwater in between keeping SW. I get so bored with it and find myself salty again.A few of my college years and a little after tanks.
My noob attempt at an Amazon biome.
