This is NOT a discussion about politics, politicians, parties the economy or anything else related to topics that make people fight! All comments associated to that will be deleted without reason sent and multiple infractions will sadly lead to a thread ban. Thank you!

I realize certain circumstances lead to how people spend money but I only want a simple answer please.

How are you spending money on this hobby as of June 15th 2023? Is it buying as usual, not as often or bare necessities?

I don't think I've bought anything for a few months now. Tank's on cruise control, but I'm going to add a few more fish/corals in the next few weeks. Also some new powerheads, my fancy "Gyre" broke after two months, so it'll be classic wavemakers for me.

Reefing doesn't change for me during the seasons. So I spend the same amount for my maintenance items. I have plenty of livestock, so I don't really buy coral or fish anymore. I have been buying more equipment lately though.

I asked this same question last fall and I can't wait to compare the poll numbers.

I try to spend a bit less every year, after a system is established. Have a budget that I'll try to stick to. That includes all livestock, dry goods and equipment. If I stick to the budget, it doesn't really matter how external factors effect finances, especially if I am selling coral here and there. For that reason, I also try to allocate at least 1/3rd of my budget to new livestock, so I have new coral to trade and sell, as the years roll on.

I switched my house to solar so I no longer have an electric bill and room to expand my fish room(s) :p

But i have been selling/trading more fish than normal. As i switch a few from fresh to salt, next up 90 gallons reef ready swapped from a 75

after that i need to clear out either a 125 or 180 for my FOWLR

Same as usual. I have alot of extras of everything. I have a new Im15 that I just need to setup, lol.
Buying 90% online now so I can get most anything I need without leaving the house.
Lfs have the same stuff over and over. Only 1 gets decent new coral from time to time.

I just moved/setup/upgrade my main tank so the money train was flowing hard. On top of that I just wrapped up a 80 qt of a bunch of corals. So I'm doing very little right now as far as spending or adding anything. I want to take a break from buying anything new and focus on growing what I have.
