Howdy everyone. Just getting started in the reef thing. Had an exterminator come into the fire house and sprayed my tank:ooh: It took about 1 1/2 years to get my tank good enough to start a reef tank again. But I will servive and my tank is no longer at the fire house. Bought some corals from jason.tammy at a really good price they are the ones who told me about this forum. I still have a long way to go. Right now I only have a 46 bowfront but have a 110gal. sitting and waiting. I'll build the 46 untill it's full then transfer to the 110 as $$ permits and the wife don't run my out. Anyway I'm pleased at what I see so far with the forum. Keep up the good work guys and gals and you'll have more readers:bigsmile:

I'm actually new to the reef thing so any beginner advise would be great. I had pretty much a live rock and fish only tank with just a few mushrooms before. I am running LEDs and t-5s. I have a 10 gal sump/refuge. I have been reading a lot about the differant things I need to be testing for ie. strotium,mag. phos, ect.

Starting out, Strontium, Magnesium, Calcium should be the last thing on your mind until you get into keeping SPS or other corals that require those elements. Focus on keeping a stable tank, and learning different aspects of the hobby. Experience is a big thing in this hobby, but its never a bad thing to get advice from experienced guys.

Dave3112.... I have been to coral reefs several times. John is a wealth of information and a great guy. His prices are not too bad either..
Skinz78.... My tank has been establish for about 3 1/2 years now and I've keeped mainly five fish 50-60lbs live rock and a few mushrooms. I have qa 46g, bow front with a 10 gal. refuge/sump. I run a protean skimmer, 2 power max 1200 pumps (in tank) 1 hang on back penguin filter without filters (Used mainly as a heater, it came with one) 1 power max 1200 used in refuge as a return pump. Lights consist of 1 36" 50/50 Reefbrite LED with a retro fite 10K T-5 on each side. (installed this 2 weeks ago and the differance has been WOW!) I do 10% water changes every 2-3 weeks. Use nothing but ro/di water. Water perimeters are always good. Refuge has a 12" pc light which I am in the process of changeing to t-5s. I have chatto and sand w/rock rubble in it. I want to start keeping some SPS and maybe LPS in the tank but need to get some more test kits before I kill some high $$$ corals. I really don't have the $$$ for a calcium reactor so I'll just keep checking the perimeters and add things as needed. I'm just not sure what and how much to add at this point. I am useing reef snow, trace elements and iron for my corals now. I have verious mushrooms, 1 yellow sinoria, 1 hollywood ? (SPS), 1 toadstool long finger leather. Any advise from anyone who knows what they are doing would be great!!!!
