This is good advice
central air, or hrv or if you look into the exhaust fan option look at panasonic's whispergreen line of fans, they are quiet and insanely energy efficient. i have one in my 200sq ft fish room and it costs less than a dollar a month to run

most modern building codes no longer allow for anything to be vented into the attic - I would assume the same for your area + it doesnt cost much more to vent to the roof; just a little more work ;) You can just keep your upstairs bathroom door open and turn the bathroom fan on in there - same effect. Newer homes usually have a switch in the living room to control the bathroom fan for this exact reason (usually close to the thermostat)

Do you have central air? If so set your thermostat fan to ON (usually a slider switch where options are ON or AUTO) - this will constantly keep air moving through out the home and help equalize things. You can install an HRV if the internal fan isn't enough.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'm going to look into some of these options.

I ran a dehumidifier in my basement for a few days close to my tank, and just found that it dried out the air, allowing my tank to evaporate more water than it normally did. I quickly scratched that idea.

Mine is the same way. I evaporate more in the winter months then in the summer months.
But adding a little more top-off water w/ kalk is better then having to deal with a mold issue.

You might want to re-think the dehumidifier idea. Just set it at a point where it slows your evaporating to a comfortable level for you.

Dehumidifiers do cost a pretty penny, i ended up spending roughly 200 on mine and it was one of the cheaper ones there.
