I Can't Win

Ok so i have dual overflows on my 120. They have Durso Standpipes. Now if i make a Reverse Durso in the sump my system is basically completely silent, but the problem is the water comes into the drain part of the sump forcefully and causes extreme bubbles so bad that it creates a white foam on the surface and bad salt creep in sump. But it is quiet for the most part. Now if i remove the Reverse dursos in the sump and put in filter socks the bubbles are completely gone, no foam, and or salt creep. BUT my drain becomes loud and gurgly. I Can't win. Any suggestions?

Is there a happy medium or something i can do to get the best of both worlds. Silent and No bubbles and foam in sump?

You can adding other pipe at the end to let water drain under the water about inch or 2 inches and with filter sock I think bubble and noise should be reduce. Good luck.

Does your water drain into the sump below water with the reverse Durso? That is probably the main cause of the foam as mentioned above. I use Durso standpipes in my dual overflow, but I don't use filter socks, so I extended the drain pipes 2" below the water surface, and I get no microbubbles or foam at all.

Very nice to know something new like this. Thanks Spidermann. Just verify "Maggie Muffler" on other link to see how it work and most of people like it, very quiet at first but then It has flush issue later on.

I use Maggie Mufflers on all of my tanks have no issues tanks are silent takes a little time to tune them in but once tuned in excellent from my 20 gal to my 1000 gal flat system

It sure does but then i have the loud gurgling sound. went to home depot and got some endcaps and different size airline to play around with

Yes I have but I think it isn't big enough. I have airline tubing coming out of hole. When I take the airline tubing out the up and down movement of the drain stops and flow is consistent but it gets real loud. I'm thinking a little bigger hole and tubing may do the trick

You may try lowering the flow out of your return pump with a ball valve.

but doesn't that make the return pump work harder by restricting it from free flow?

By using a ball valve to restrict some flow, your just adding some head pressure to the pump which most pumps are designed to handle. Many people use ball valves to lower flow going into their tanks, skimmers, reactors etc.

A restricted pump will also consume less electric.
