Input for experimental Non Live Rock

Honestly I think you could get away with a reactor full of stones such as zeo or brightwells etc and achieve the same thing.... Of course a little rock always looks nice in a display lol... My frag tank
Is a 100gal system so it would be considered a regular tank IMHO just a shallow one..;)

Why would you want a display tank with no rock in it?

display with no natural Live Rock not an empty tank, over time LR gets sealed up, coraline smothers it, corals cover it, it potentially has plenty of organics inside that can die off and give P04 off

In theory yes. But the best rock to have is rock that is years old. I would pay top dollar for rock that was 5 years old before I bought rock that was 6 months old. The older the better. More life. With old rock that is full of life the tank should be able to take care of itself. That is why everyone wants a mature system. They are more stable.

I think that is the exact reverse of ideal, 1 yr old rock has more diversity than older rock, you simply cannot maintain the life that comes on a rock fresh from the ocean, older rock has probably purged itself of the dieoff that has occurred, the older the rock the closer it becomes to being laden with P04

I think if anyone can do this project you are definately the right person for the job Steve!

As for the Aluminum Oxide in our tanks I have to agree, I use it for PO4 removal as the iron based phosphate removers cause clams to have issues and I love the results I get from using the Aluminum Oxide!

guess I better be getting some molds made and pitter patter lol, I remember using the Al ox for po4 removal when I had the foam wall tank, I could kill a baseball sized piece of cheato overnight
