They are a cold water fish and almost impossible to find for sale.

No, colder than that. My friend was collecting them from Puget sound, as one place. I'd have to look what the average temp is there. We even find these in my hometown which is Newfoundland , Canada and those waters are super cold. They also hug the bottom, so they live in the coldest parts of cold water. There are different types, so they all aren't the same, but we had been looking for some for a few years and never really found a good source.

That sounds really cold. I found a couple videos of people training them to swim through hoops or blow bubble on command. They look like they have a lot of personality :D

They are cute as a button. The Aquarium of the Pacific has an awesome display of them in shallow tanks where you can have a good look. Even the burliest man would go "SQUEE!".
