Hello everyone my Midas blenny in a QT tank with a few tangs and a clown fish. Yesterday I noticed he had a cut on this side. He’s still active and eating. I wasn’t sure if it was a cut from one of my tangs or uronema. I’m about to take him out and put him in a different tank but what’s the best thing for medication?

Looks to be a tail strike from the tang which has scalpels by its tail. Should heal on its own but keep an eye on it for redness/sore. My concern is repeat behavior moving forward

Thank you! I was hoping it was uronema. I’m moving him out of that tank today.

You dont want uronema which will literally dissolve flesh and feeds on bacteria

One more comment - I would watch very very carefully for any worsening. That does not seem like a shallow wound

URO is a 90% death sentence...

Also if that wound does not turn white, and stays red, prognosis will not be good.
I would QT, and give it a round of Kanaplex.

But most of my fish that had red lesions did not make it without medication.
They always seem to get infected, and then later on die.

Without microscopic analysis, you can't be sure this is Uronema, but I've not seen that disease in this species. Also, the wound looks more like an injury to me, probably from a tang's scalpel. However, as @MnFish1 said, it does look fairly deep. If the scalpel penetrated the fish's belly, peritonitis is possible. That is difficult/impossible to treat. I would just give it supportive care - which is basically just ensuring it eats well. There is of course a risk that if it is from a tang strike, that it could happen again.

Yeah I think one of the tangs swiped him, no other fish in that tank are showing anything. Not even the clown fish that was in there. It does look like a gash more than anything

They’re in a 30 gallon QT at the moment going into my 125 display. They were in copper for 30 days already. I removed the copper and just watch to make sure they’re all good.

Thank you my friend. I do believe it’s a wound also because it’s puffy on both sides so that lead me to believe it’s not uronema
