We use a Canon 50d and alternate between EF 28-135 IS USM and a EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM
Here's some sample pics that we have taken:

Great closeups AquaWorld!! Personally i am using a Nikon D3100 stock lens but hopfully getting a macro lens in the future. I am still very much a newbie with the camera but there is a lot of potential.

Here's a couple of my pics:

I would say $500-1000.

That probably takes you out of the DSLR route since most of the nicer macro lenses will cost you that much. For point and shoot cameras, many of the ones now have macro settings and take decent shots. I don't have one myself, but Canon seems to have some good offerings.

The T2i can be had for under a G so not sure why that takes me out of the DSLR realm? I would get the macro a little later on. Just sucks cause I have a bada++ 35mm with many lenses. Non on them fit....

I was assuming that you would want to take macro shots with that budget. Personally, I think that DSLR is the way to go. Nikon or Canon are both great. I have a D90 and really like it. What kind of 35mm do you have?

Yashica with sigma lenses. It's like 15 yrs old but still takes great pics. Never use it though just point and shot cams these days.
