My SPS & Clam Tank

Well darn…i use tropic marine pro with 7-8dkh. You feel higher dkh is beneficial? I’ve always tried to replicate natural ocean. But your tank 🔥👍
I’m highly competitive. I compete in acropora grow-out contests, and I play to win. 😃

Go big or go home. High risk. High reward. Double or nothing. Edge of disaster is the edge of greatness. Etc Etc.

lol.

I almost signed up for the current Battle Corals competition. But I’ll wait until I get the chemistry figured out with you 🤣. Thanks coach!

But the coral were a great deal regardless 🤔

Battle boxes in the future regardless 🤘

It’s been 2.5 days. Maybe it’s normal, but I’ve never seen this behavior in my life. I’ve never had a fish hide like this in my display.

I hope mine will be the same. This naso is super cute: like a puppy dog. 😉

@Dr. Reef usually sends out the fish after a month. I placed the order on June 16th, but the fish was ready to be shipped on the 19th, which is EXTREMELY quick. He must have had the fish in stock prior, but long did he have it for exactly? I don’t know.
We had that fish for 50 days.
Few things might be at hand. Most naso are caught in south Asian countries using cyanide. We see a lot of that. Fish may look ok on the surface but internally their organs are shutting down slowly. This could take months. Sometimes 3 months.
Also large fish like yours, shipping is harsh on them. Although we bag and box them in largest box available to us but still the size of the fish and water available in bag may cause ammonia poisoning for short term. Thus fish may take a few days to recover.
Anyways after a few posts/days I see you have reported its doing better now which tells me it likley was stressed in shipping and or had minor ammonia poisoning.
I hope it continues to grow and remain healthy.
Thank you and happy reefing

You’re doing great! People make the chemistry side seem too fragile. Chemistry is actually one of the least likely reasons for coral issues IMO.

I appreciate the extensive response. I really appreciate your service, and I can’t wait to receive the other fish.

I was very skeptical to order prequarantied fish, but I ultimately pulled the trigger after seeing how caring and involved you are with your service.

There was stupid propaganda on another bitter site, and it caused me to have a preconceived notion. You proved yourself and really earned my trust — that’s not an easy feat. 😉

I don’t think the Naso has cyanide poisoning. I actually didn’t even account for shipping stress; I never had a problem with it. However, I never ordered a fish this large. It makes complete sense.

I almost ordered the 8-10” instead of the 6-8” 😂

You and Randy are a blessing to the hobby!
That means a lot, thank you. Randy is my mentor, and he taught me most things I know.

One of my proudest accomplishments is having my articles in the chemistry pinned stickies.

I love each one, and they all have a vivid, deep story and life during the creative process. Each one had its own immersive experience.

Most of my articles ideas start when I see many threads asking the same question, but the answers are complex, confusing, and have nuance. I really enjoy breaking down large topics into easier to digest bits.

I also hate misinformation. 😛
It bugs me to keep reading it swirled around the forums. I just want to keep it real and straight.

You are competing while I am just trying to keep em alive 😂😂😂

Come on! I’m sure you’re doing great. If I were a coral, I’d choose to live in your tank with all that fresh phyto and no dino (rhyme may or may not be intentional.) Lol

Do you have a tank thread or picture?

Nitrate was 0.6 ppm. Pretty low. I added ammonium bicarbonate.

I started working on my new article idea today. It’s cooking nicely. 🙂

Here's my thread, although I am overdue for some updates to it: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/guess-whos-back-back-again-redsea-850-g2.949314/

How much are you adding? and how often? I am thinking of putting my ammonium dosing on a pump.

It’s a different method than I’ve used before. I’ll run my numbers and get a nitrate test before I’ll share the “top secret” method. I’ll need a few hours until I get back home. lol

2 updates.

1) The second lot from Dr. Reef is completed and paid for. Now we wait for the arrival and reveal!

I found a user I’ve never seen before: @BCSreef

In fact, I didn’t even know that user existed. I got one of my dream acro: HOTO (Heart of the Ocean), among some other cool ones.

There’s a weird backstory to HOTO. Someone a few years ago had an auction on R2R that ended on a Sunday.

I placed my bid on Saturday night, and I was so happy. Score!

…until the next day someone placed a higher bid and the OP said he actually meant it ended on Sunday at 11:59 pm.

So…I’ve been on the lookout for one since!

Very excited!

Performance enhancing drugs?

What’s your ca/alk supplement? Any ICP testing/trace elements?
Thanks for any information. I saw your growth in the Battlecorals efflo grow out and was just hoping to find out the keys to your success.
I know T5 is a good start for growth and color!
I should have called it! I knew you were gonna win the efflo even then. You dominated that comp.
I’m definitely joining colliderscope and hopefully get in the lottery for orange blast. If I don’t get in the lottery I plan to get one of his $200 tenuis frags. I’m eyeing High Rainbow as my backup to Orange blast.
Bc you know, free shipping and blue lights.

Thanks! Your encouragement really helped me push through the final leg. 🙂

Nitrate is now at 7 ppm. I’m pretty impressed by my intuition.

Ammonia dose has stopped. The new, incoming fish will maintain or increase it for me.

is your top secret method adding fish?
