My name is Jonas Roman and i am a devoted aquarist since 1992. My last aquarium is a dominated SPS aquarium, 650 l, mainly relying on biological filtration in form of a DSB and macroalguerefugium. No additives and minimal skimming. Some water change, and calcium reactor.
My setup etc is more easy to read at advance aquarist, http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2015/6/aquarium
where i had the great honour to be the tank of the month june 2015. My main interest is reefchemistry , but i am not a chemist, but work as a surgeon in Sweden.

Thanks for a very nice and kind forum:-)

Sorry for not updated this since long time. Much work with Alkatronic;-)

Well, here is 3 fresh pictures, and I actually think a stable dKH is payed back in: good coloration, growth, and actually also no more dino, and/or cyano. Stability and not too high dKH I believe is the key. (I say believe as a result of being humble to the complexity and multifactorial properties of the biology).

Please adresse me questions if there is anything you want to know.
The system is shortly:
  • Calciumreactor, but I am in a transition phase to convert to Balling.
  • DSB and macroalgrefugium.
  • Led illumination.
  • 20-25 fishes (4 surgeon, 4 "big" angelfishes, 1 small angel, 8 anthias, and 3-4 other "small" fishes)
  • And of course the overlord Alkatronic;-)

Happy reefing

Beautiful tank my friend, why the switch to balling, too low ph?

Beautiful tank my friend, why the switch to balling, too low ph?

thanks:-)
yes that is one of the reason, but mostly it is a multifactorial causes
1) My dKH consumption is that high so I need both Balling and reactor, and in that situation I would like to only have one technical solution
2) the ph issue, yes
3) Actually also it is cheaper for me if I mix the chemicals myself.

The tank is looking terrific....congrats.
