New sand or keep sand storm?

About 6 months ago, I purchased new sand for my 125 reef. I ended up getting super fine (didn't realize how fine the grain was) from marco rocks. About 160 lbs worth! Well, after 6 months, a bullet gobie and medium-high flow, I have had it with the sand storms!! I know the biggest problem is the bullet gobie, but he works hard at keeping the sand bed turned over. Between the gobie and flow, my acans and rockwork become overwhelmed in sand. I really don't want to start over with new sand, but it was a thought now that 1 of 3 tangs has HLLE.Removing the carbon is what I believe will aid the recovery of barely noticable HLLE (and my own version of super food), but I've read that dust can be trapped within the sand. Any thoughts on starting with new sand or covering the existing sand? Thanks to all

mayeb try covering it with a inch of seaflor special grade? Seaflor Special Grade Reef Sand

I'll look into that one but still not sure if I should even keep my current sand.

i run a DSB with VERY fine sand. my water's crystal clear and i'm running 2 tunze 5085s and 2 tunze 6045s constantly. maybe powerhead placement?

My powerheads are half way down the side walls aimed at the surfaced for a shimmering affect. I've tried multiple ways with no success.

i have mine 1/3 up and it did take me some time to find different directions so it wouldn't create sandstorms in my tank.

Thanks, might try a heavier sand like arag-alive special grade sand (1.0-2.0 grain size). Any thoughts?

idk. i can't exactly tell what size mines is. it's sand direct from the ocean tho. grains are super tiny.

Thanks, I'll try to switch the flow around, but the bullet gobie ain't helping. He might get moved to the bio cube, HA.

haha yeah i had that problem with a flagtail tilefish. then he disappeared after 2 weeks.

Well, the wife and I have talked over the system (mainly because my chevron has HLLE), and she said that leaving it alone for now is what she would recommend. Usually she is right (and yes... I told her that) even though she has only learned the operating system behind most reefs from me. I will try to reposition the flow and see how things go. If the gobie continues to spread in the middle of the flow, he will be reassigned to the refugium!
