Ive had my tank set up now for about 2 months now. I have a 150gal (hopefully) reef tank w/ a 55gal sump/refugium, 2x 250w 14000k metal hilides, seacloan 150 skimmer (point of sale), mag 12 pump, 4x800gph powerheads. Here are some pics from alomost start to now.

Let me know what you think... thanks

Very nice! Welcome to R2R!

Definitely a nice start Dav! What kind of reef tank are you going after? SPS, LPS, Softy, maybe a mixed tank? I like your choice on lights, when I had halides I loved the 14K's by Hamilton. They had the exact blue color I was looking for, it's a shame now that I switched to T5's! ;)

Hey Dav Welcome to Reef2Reef. Always nice to see Florida Reefers! Nice looking tank! Your stand and canopy is coming along nicely...are you planning on painting or staining??

Welcome to R2R. It looks like you have a nice setup going there. However, you might want to think about getting rid of those bioballs.

Welcome aboard and nice looking tank. Since you asked for input, I'd get rid of that Seaclone skimmer first thing. If you have any issues or questions, please don't hesitate to contact us directly.

Ive got 2 coats of clear satin waterbased poly now and waiting for some free time to do 2 more coats. I was shooting for a plain and simple stand and at first I was going to wrap it with sheetroc but I got the cabinet grade plywood for my birthday so I used that instead.

Yeah almost all of the bio balls are gone except for a handfull. Im using those a bubble catchers since I still have the point of sale seacloan hooked up.

Yes I have had enough with that skimmer. I had transferred it from my 60gal. It works but its really a point of sale. I hate it and Im currently looking for a new one. Any ideas of whats "the best" skimmer. I want to stay under $300 and I want one that has a drain on it. Im really not into fish I have the nemo effect now thanks to wife and kids but I dont really want anymore fish. The hippo tang is 3" the clown is 1" and a firefish about 1.5" also have about 300-350lbs of live rock.

I really like the SWC 160 cone for a little under that price.

It is. However, I just went back and saw that you have over 200 gallons of water in your system. I'm not sure that it will handle that much. Usually when you are looking at skimmers for that much water, you have to increase your budget quite a bit :(

CJ

True cj, thats the only problem with larger tanks. I was thinking a reef octopus I was actually just looking at the Reef Octopus 8" Pinwheel In Sump Skimmer which is $279.00 online.(I dont know if I can post the website??) What do you think about reef octopus. I have heard very good reviews about these skimmers.

I haven't used one, but I've heard nothing but good things about them.
