So I picked up this "torch" coral last weekend for $20. I use quotations as it has very short heads on it. First question is this actually a torch? Second I took a picture of what it looks like at night is this normal, it always goes back to looking like the first picture after a few hours? Thanks!

So is it not technically a torch? Dont know if it was worth the $20 or not lol least it has 4 heads
It's a cristata, aka grape coral, so no, not a torch, however they do look similar, and are still a euphyllia. Not quite sure on pricing but definitely a steal for 4 heads!

Grapefruit corals often get sold as torches on ebay for reasons unknown to me also some lfs make mistakes when they order in assorted euphyllia.

+1 on the grape coral. You’ll get a tad more pe as it gets happier but it will still stay pretty compact. Not a bad piece for $20 they usually sell for $20 Ph as a budget friendly “torch”.

It's euphyllia cristata.... Websites lable it a torch or a grape coral. Torch is not a scientific name so that term can be applied loosely and I have seen it sold under the name 'torch' plenty but it is a bit missleading tbh.

20 dollars is still a good price.

They usually call it cristata short tentacle torch. And $20 is a good deal! :) if you like longer tentacles euphyllia, your best bet are indo or Malaysian torches
