I decided to check my temperature today on my 32.5G, and it’s reading 85 degrees Fahrenheit…. All my fish seem to be okay, not gasping for my air or anything… All of my corals are good… I just have some gonis that won’t open up all the way but I’ll be testing my other parameters later this week. I’m running a sicce preset heater that is supposed to be preset at 78 degrees, I contacted sicce if they can’t help I’ll be picking up a different heater. Right now I’m freezing some RODI cubes in the freezer to help lower the temperature… should I unplug the heater for now? It seems to shut off like it’s supposed to… I double checked my return pump and anything else that could be causing heat but everything seems fine?

Worst thing you can do is drop you temperature by a huge amount quickly, slow lower the temperature to 82 and you will be fine!

For themp control, I run a 6inch clip-on fan on top of my 40g breeder using a dual temp controller. Set dual controller for fan to come on at 83 and turn off at 82 in the summer months. Heater comes on at 75 and turn off at 76 in winter months (tank is in garage).

Okay… gonna add some rodi ice but not much and keep an eye on it.. I’m going to pick up the sicce contactless heater and hopefully won’t have to deal with this issue again… maybe get an ink bird later on… I’m just confused as to how this happened

If it helps ease your concerns, we lost power for a full week last year from hurricane Beryl. My tank got up to 91 degrees just from the summer heat. We lost one small montipora frag IIRC, but everything else survived

That does ease my mind a bit, I’m just glad I caught it on time… something in me told me test the temperature today lol.. definitely will be picking up an ink bird or something to monitor temps better later down the road

If you live in an area that gets really hot in the spring and summer, Get a chiller with a heater outlet option. Set the temp and forget about it. Failsafe. I’ve had mine for 15 years and zero issues.

How long have you had the heater?
This explains why I felt like I was getting shocked at times when doing maintenance 😭 I had bought multimeter to test but never got around to it lol

Basic heaters always eventually fail, its just a matter of time. Its really best to spend the $40 and get an inkbird and protect from this ever happening again.
