I highly recommend the Ocoto Aquatics Baffle Kit for those of you with a V2 reefer and are looking for a divider for your sump. I received mine this past week and couldn’t be happier.

Was very easy to install and provided an initial section for my skimmer and a section that follows for a fuge. There are 4 magnets that hold the 2 pieces in place and plastic screws / wing nuts that allow you to adjust the width slightly in case of imperfections with Red Sea’s sizing of their chambers. Fit perfectly and did not result in any additional noise / dripping sounds from the sump. There is a cool clear window which provides additional viewing options of the second section.

I know Octo has been reviewed a lot on here but the communication was outstanding. I worked closely with him to help ensure the baffle kit would work with those of us who are running the Red Sea cups instead of socks. Build quality is very high and everything came securely wrapped / boxed.

Below are some pictures that I hope will help show how it’s setup. My skimmer is in the way but all the power cords are zip tied so hard to get it out of the way without taking them all off.

Happy to answer any questions you all have!

I hate to just randomly jump in, but has anyone installed the ClariSea SK5000 in their reefer yet? I have the 425 xl and was debating about modifying the sock area, but wanted to see if that was even feasible. Thanks!

I'd like to pass along an important tip for those with the Red Sea Reefers. I have a Reefer 450, it's been great. Set it up a year ago, so far, so good.

That said, here's my single most important piece of advice: there's a regular maintainence item you need to pay very close attention to, the sump float for the top-off water. IMHO, this is the weakest point in the Red Sea Series. That float WILL clog, and when it does, things can go south quickly, with the pump soon cavitating and then no more circulation. If this happens when you're not at home, you've got a problem. It happened to me twice in the first 4 months, before I began the following:

Now, every week, I remove the rubber supply hose from the top off reservoir and I blow strongly through the hose while holding the float valve down. This clears any crude from the small pinhole in the float. Usually, you'll feel a bit of resistance as the valve clears, then you can blow strongly. You'll quickly get a feel for what a cleared valve sounds and feels like. Do this every week. Since then, I've not had any float problems.

I highly recommend you add this simple procedure to your regular maintainence tasks. :)

Good advice and nice tank / pad!

Let me know if you have any questions, help you to the best of my ability. Enjoy

Hey Dan got my pump in yesterday I was wondering how did you replumb yours so that you can use standard size PVC. If I am not mistaken it is metric size in there and I want to switch it over to standard. I also don't want to use soft tubing for the pump I want to hard plumb it in as well. Any tips?

Ok so there are a few ways to do this! They make MM to standard fittings is what I used. Now some people have got more initvated, where they are shaving down the standard PVC to fit/glue into the Red Sea (MM) fittings. You can find a lot of info on here 20/30 pages back! If you want more detail on how I did mine PM me will be gald to give you details and pictures if you want! Remember mine is custom top to bottom with the sump as well so there could be a better way for you let me know.

I don’t use anything to hold the plumbing in place but if you do it needs to be under 1/2” double check make sure it won’t go through and out the other end

Can I get a critique on this rock work?

I’m setting up a 170 and was thinking of making the bottom right side “float” using a 1/2” glass shelf. The upper right side will also branch out using 1/2” acrylic rods, drilled through the rock (not like in the picture). The only thing I can think of changing would be creating more space in between rocks.

BTW, this will be an anemone tank.

TIA

The rock-work is very nice
I personally don’t like glass shelves as they accumulate dirt what i would usually recommend is to blast it with flow but since its a anemone tank i wouldn’t have strong flow
More space i don’t know depending on the types of anemones if it’s bubble tips they like to burry their feet into rock crevices so what you have will work well

So putting together my Reefer 350 cabinet I managed to break two of the cam locks. I didn't tighten them that much, they just snapped rather easily. Anyone else have that issue? I emailed Red Sea last night to see if I can get some replacements, but haven't heard back. Tempted to just grab some replacements from Lowe's or something so I can get going with this build.

EDIT: Weird just as I hit post for this post, Amanda from Red Sea emailed me. Should have some on the way soon.

I’m thinking about getting the filter cups to replace the filter socks. I’m hoping by filling them 2/3 with media and then topping them off with filter floss it will quiet down the water noise. Anybody do this that would share if it worked?

Looks nice but think ahead as to what you will use the manifold for. In my case with a 425xl which is similar to yours I wanted reactors (aquamaxx), this requires a bit of rethinking to allow room. So just plan out how far apart your manifold valves are apart from each other.

Hey guys im switching from a nuvo 20 to a reefer nano. In my nuvo ive been running the 1k gyre. I was thinking to selling it and going with 2 aqamai kps pumps, one on each back side. That way i can have my side glass clear. Would i be better off with 1 mp10 instead? My budget is really only 200$ and thats with me hoping to get a few bucks for my gyre... i figure the 2 pumps for the price of 1 is a pretty slick deal for a nano!

Trying to decide how much rock to order for my 350. It’s been so long since I’ve setup from scratch I can’t remember how much rock I really had previously. I just kept adding/removing rock through the years. Was thinking of starting with 50 pounds of reef saver then maybe grab some seeded pieces from world wide corals (I’m local to them!) If I end up needing more
