Hi everyone new here to R2R, I used to post at other sites over the years but found R2R and I have been lurking and reading for a while. A little background on myself, I have had some type of saltwater tanks on & off since 1988. My last set-up which was taken down 4 years ago when I moved to my new house was a in wall 150G cube (full blown reef) which was my best set-up to date. I moved all the inhabitants with me and my corals, clams & fish were in "temporary" rubbermaid troughs as I was getting settled. After a year of being in a temporary setup I went on vacation for a week & came back to a disaster. GFI tripped and I came home to a smelly house and lost fish & SPS, LPS corals some I had been raising almost a decade all from frags. I about threw the towel in, but I was to addicted to this hobby to quit.

So I have been working on my new fish room for a couple years on & off, I know it's a very slow build! Currently I am just running my future frag tank which is housing some fish & various corals it is a Deep Blue shallow 80 gallon with and old I-tech skimmer, Turbo Aquatics L2 scrubber and a homemade 40 gallon breeder sump lit by a Ocean Revive LED. This tank will be it's own system & not tied to the main reef tank. It will use this to grow out frags and bring in new fish for a month or two before being added to the main tank.

So the main tank I bought brand new in 2015 and has been taking up space on the floor of my basement since then, it is a Marineland 300DD. I know this particular aquarium has a tendency to blow out on the bottom glass (due to bad silicone work) which makes me very nervous but since I have had this so long I am going to roll the dice. Equipment on this tank is what I have purchased over the years or came off my last set-up. The sump is a custom acrylic & return pump will most likely be a Octo Varios 8. The skimmer is a Aquamaxx ConeS Q-3, and this will also have a ATS turbo aquatics L4 scrubber to help with water quality. I just picked up a used Calcium Reactor MRC CR-2 with a Carbon Doser CO2 regulator and Masterflex pump. Pretty excited about this purchase, first reactor I have ever had I previously dosed a combo of Kalkwasser/Vinegar along with BRS Alk/Calc/Mag with dosing pumps. That's it for now, construction pics will be next!

Thanks Jsker! A little more on the build, the room everything will be housed in is 8' x 13' room in the basement. I thought this was going to be a huge room, but after adding shelving, frag tank, 100 gallon RODI mix station and the main tank itself it is pretty tight but it should work OK. Lighting will be a rolling ceiling (stanley overhead door track with rollers) home made light rack which I can move out of the way to work on the tank. Lighting, where do I start? I am old school on lighting (although I own a few various LED's). What I know for sure is that there will be one (1) 250W Radium MH, with an old Lumenbright reflector. This light will be for the center main rock display where all the high light SPS will be located. This will be supplemented by a 60" Reefbrite LED to add a little pop. On the left & right I think I am going to place two (2) 2 foot T-5 ATI (6 bulb) fixtures on each side of the Metal Halide. I really want to give the GHL Mitras LX7000 or the Orphek V4 a go but I am just not sold on them for the money. I know there are plenty examples of great LED reefs out there but it seems you have to buy a lot of fixtures to get the complete coverage you need to get a consistent coverage of light.

Must say, if it were me, I'd eurobrace the bottom on this tank. Carefully remove the inner 'seal' and silicone in a strip of new glass - as thick as possible. Some of the custom tank makers do this (C2C and Glasscages) on their larger tanks and I think it is a very good idea.

Took off the diaper insulation, while getting ready for a combo of sheet insulation & mineral wool batts. This will give me a lot better R-value and it will deal much better with the high humidity in this room. The second pic is the future tank locations.

CA, you may be on to something with eurobracing the bottom of the tank. Since I am building my own stand their warranty is null and void on the 300DD anyway. I am going to check with my LFS as they sub out large custom aquariums and see who they would recommend locally.

Moved floor drain from center of room to under mop sink, ground the concrete floor and put in a commercial (full flake for texture) epoxy floor and it is sweet! I can slop around back here and does not hurt a thing. Installed PVC floor base, siliconed & sealed.

New Drain/epoxy floor, plywood up except for areas I will be adding a couple more dedicate 20A circuits for the big tank.

OK, you can rest assured that the tape is off :). Here is kind of roughly where I am at today. Everything is still kind of temporarily set up, the 80 gallon is up & running, the mop sink is in, little work station shelf is in and RODI tank is in place but not plumbed.

Looking back, I wished I would have went larger on the acrylic sump. I plan on using the "Herbie" method, thus the four holes you see on the left of the sump, not sure how it's going to work with dual overflows but I guess we will find out. Once you install the Skimmer and ATS the middle chamber is very full. I am going to modify a 40G tank, that will serve as my ATO and sit next to this sump under the stand. I may add a refugium or RDSB later but as of right now I am trying to keep it simple.
