Tang in a Nano??

I know I am gonna hear about it but I have been looking and I see a lot of people with tangs they have had for years and they are 4" or 5". Why can you not put them in a tank that is 30" long? I know they like to swim is that the only reason. A real reason not that you can't do it.

What are you thinking about adding? Certain tangs would be very unhappy in that size tank. Any of the bristletooth tangs would be good as long as you get small ones.

I wanted to borrow someones tang and throw it in my nano with my Mandarins and take a bunch of pics. then post them over on RC and stir up some crap.

lol watch out for the tank police they might get you over there but if you ask me if you get a small one and when it gets to big you get rid of it you will be ok. i have a 125 with 5 tangs. but that is just me lol.

I would think they'd be unhappy for not having enough swimming room. I honestly feel bad for my tangs sometime. They are only about 3.5" long, but they swim around so much, I sometimes feel like my 150 is too small for them. Also a tang in such a small tank would probably be aggressive depending on the species. I had a tenneti tang in a 54 gallon for a while and he hated every other fish in the tank with him even though he was added last. Now he's in a bigger tank and gets along with everyone just fine! The size of the tank was the only difference that I could come up with.

Yeah, I wouldnt even put a tang in my 55 gallon but thats just me. Get a 6/8 foot tank if you want a tang.

The 'tang police' are looking out for the quality of life the fish will receive, not the idiots that are willing to overcrowd them into their tanks.

Great idea getting rid of them when they're too big, then you can just start over with a new small one. It's not like they're alive or anything...

Once my puppy gets bigger, Im going to get rid of it for another puppy...

I think it has a lot to do with swimming room. Then again, I have 7 tangs in my 300g and people will say that's too many.

Ok then, not to hijack the thread but what are some good cleaners for our smaller frag tanks? The only reason I have a tang in mine is to clean the algae anyways. So I guess not only I not only have mine in prison, he is also doing hard labor...

I think a tomini tang should be ok. Anything else will get too big for a 30" tank

I have a hippo in a 29 biocube, Shes a MAC certified and I got her when she was the size of a dime... now she is about 1 and a half inches long. She still seems very happy. She swims into my power heads like they are the never ending pool for her. She doesn't bother any of my other fish (midas blenny, oc clown, bangi cardinal) seems very healthy, and never once had ick. I do feed her a wide veriety of food which I believe is VERY important! (garlic nori every other day) I believe they can not only be fine, but happy also. I'm saving money as we speak to get a 75-120 next just for her though. I could never get rid of her. You should always have plans for moving, because you will get attatched. I think just trading in is wrong.

Yeah i had a hippo tang that size too and once she was about 3 inches or so i gave her to a friend with a much bigger tank...the hippo is now 6 inches and very healthy! It can be done for a limited time while they are small!!

How long did it take yours to get 3 inches? I just need to know how much time I have until I must upgrade?
