I run about 79 and have good luck around there

recently I increased to 82-83to see if it helps with my Dino issue. It’s been about a week to get it up and a week at 82-83. So far no Ill effect on any corals or fish, but also I don’t notice a change in Dino’s.

for me your a little low on temp- but I think this is a loaded question lol. I find most things can acclimate to temperature change as long as it’s done slowly.

personally I don’t know what the “best” temp is. Curious if there is an ideal temp that promotes growth and/or color?

following along to see what others say.

HAPPY REEFING!

I scuba dive coral reefs. Corals do fine anywhere from the high sixties to the low eighties.

Marine creatures are nearly all poikilotherms meaning their temperature matches their environment. Their metabolic rate will go up with temperature. So things will grow a bit faster at higher temperatures. As temperatures decline, oxygen levels tend to increase because it is more soluble in cooler water. And at higher temperatures, corals can bleach which means losing their commensal algae but that happen in the mid eighties.

I run at 77 to 78 degrees. Your temperature is fine. You can run anywhere from 70 degrees to say 82 degrees.

Frag tank at 82f (higher alk and nutrients). Everything grows like weeds.

180 mixed at 74f. Sps and lps do fine, but my nems are the main reason. They seem to do so much better at a lower temp. Mertens, gigs, ritts, haddoni and btas are all in there. SpS is slower to grow, but still grows.

220 and 500 mixed, but mainly sps in 220 and euphillia/zoas in 500 at 78-79.

I’ve got three thermometers, (in Celsius) 25.1,25.5, 25.8. Take your choice on which one to believe. I’ve even borrowed a NIST calibrated one, seems to indicate 25.5ish.

Teh con
So what's the consensus on what temperature to run? I've been running 76.5 for the last 6 years and wondering if that might be on the cooler side of things now.
The consensus is:
There is no consensus. We do know that there are reef tanks that have been keep long term anywhere from mid, even low 70's to low 80's.

I set my chiller at 77, and it bounces between 77-79 because I didn’t feel the need to buy a big enough chiller..... I just didn’t want the temps to go >85 or so
