Mad as Hades about some reef crap you bought? I am fed up with a multi billion dollar industry that is selling junk and its time as a group we told them so.
My rant this evening is Stealth Heaters, my gfi blew the other day and after a search I couldn't find a fault anywhere, reset it and it tripped again, I moved everything to an unprotected circuit to see if it was a major or minor problem and nothing appeared wrong, circuit stayed live, no smoke, no sparks (now the funny part) doing a small water change I put my siphon hose in my mixed water pail and got a jolt that used up at least one birthday.
I have some heaters that are 8 yrs old and are perfect, Ive had 3 stealths go this year all less than a yr old, so? we can transplant a heart,walk on the moon, blow up stuff from a continent away and we can't make a water heater thats safe? COME ON! this is a no brainer, we have lives at risk, ours and our tank inhabitants, who do we have to torture to produce a simple heater? one with a blinking light that means "HEY! Im leaking current over here!"
WE SPEND BILLIONS OF $$$$$$$$$ EVERY YEAR, How can we take these manufacturers to task?

just checked and no its the original model, so the new one shuts off if out of water, has an on light and is shatterproof?

The older ones shut off out of water and were shatterproof. The Pro just has the light and an improved dial and a full of problmes. The older ones were much higher quality IMO, you had a bad experience. Chinese made mass produced products, add in the fact that it is a heater and bound to fail one day. Sorry to hear about your trouble.

I've been lit up a few times by Mag Drive pumps holy S*** do those things give you a jolt lol MJ1200 give you a nice little jolt as well by the way

The older ones shut off out of water and were shatterproof. The Pro just has the light and an improved dial and a full of problmes. 110 is 110.... Either pump or heater etc. Can kill ya when mixed with water.... I had a glass one crack one me and almost burn the house down but never got zapped.... I have never used a heater since... My mh do the job just fine.. Lol

theres always a little stray juice flowing and if you have a cut you notice it way more

yea I've been zapped by one also then it broke (note: it's supposed to be shatter proof) and leaked some kind of oil into my tank which almost crashed it. thank god i had a buddy with a QT!!!

yuck! my favorites are the stainless steel ones with separate controller module, they don't sell them around here any more

I had bad luck with one of those. One day it just stuck in the on position and almost made fish soup...luckily I was home and when I went to feed the fish, I said fut the wuck?

I have the Marineland with the red/green light now...is this the one you started this thread about? I've really liked it so far :squigglemouth:

I'm with you heater in the room if I need it but otherwise no heater to many problems with them with almost every major brand been zapped three times by stealth heaters one time laid me flat on my back I even had a grounding probe in I think it made it worse imo

Nothing like a good electrocution once in a while lol I have been hit by 220 once and boy o boy let me tell you it was definetely an experience I never want to relive. off tpoic but where I use to live it had a few full size basketball courts with giant stadium like lights well they went off to early so I figured out a way to rig them well me being an idiot tried it in the rain once and thats went I fried myself lol
