I had a 40 gallon breeder for years. I got a small toadstool with green polyps from petco. It thrived. Tripled in size, had amazing polyp extension and did amazing despite fish constantly bumping into it.
It would reopen immediately and even stay open through the night. I had a 4 bulb t5 lighting system. One day the toad closed and never opened again. I moved it. I changed the flow. I did everything. The tissue was 100% healthy, but the polyps never showed again.
Eventually, I figured I needed more room and decided to upgrade. I upgraded to a 75g. In a complete new system with new LED lights the toad never opened. Its been over a year now and the toad has not opened once. It looks 100% healthy. No tissue necrosis, no degradation, nothing, but zero extension.
I then acquired 3 more toadstools of various sources and places/flow. None of them will open. One will open enough to see polyps, then immediately close again.
I have an XL weeping willow that is thriving and constantly open.
But I ordered a small willow frag and it also has not opened in the week Ive had it.
The tank is full of only leathers and zoanthids that are all thriving. Everything is extended except these toads. Its driving me crazy.
What could make toadstools from 2 different systems so angry?
The toad used to be the size of a half dinner plate. The others are the same. Healthy looking, but no poylps.
Running carbon. Nothing touching them. Skimmer.
