Just curious if I can cut the long ones back so they don’t sting anything. You can see them in this photo- can I cut those back without issue?

I’d say it would put you at risk for infection if you do… maybe do a iodine dip if you try it.. I’d also guess it will just grow right back.

It’s likely it’ll just send out other sweepers. The biggest risk factor you’ll be adding is infection as Troylee said.

Gotcha- makes sense and I appreciate the answers! Little bit of a pain when I have to turn the pumps and flow off (for cleaning and spot feeding) and the tentacles rest- they start touching each other. I just blast them with a little water to try and get them to retract right before but I’m sure that’s not really good for them either.

Great question and lots of good info!

Torches will lose pieces of tenticles for various reasons all the time...so in theory cutting them shouldn't do long term harm.

With that being said, like mentioned by @Troylee there is risk of bacterial infection just as there is with any open wound.

Iodine bath would be helpful.

However like @i cant think mentioned, the torch will likely send a different tenticle to do the sweeping haha

Just a heads up, even a broken or cut tenticle can sting other coral.

I've seen tenticles land on coral and kill them in that spot.

Following for Info as well. Also amazing looking tank!

They will produce new sweepers. Assure no corals within 4" of them and they look great

I appreciate the replies from everyone! I’ll leave them alone- I wasn’t sure if “trimming” was a thing or not. The other torch gets a lot of flow from the power head- so this one may be be since it’s under the power head. And makes sense that it thinks something else might be near it as the tank feels a little cramped with being such a small tank (32 g) and I have all soft and lps corals.
