I just added SPS to my 2 weeks old tank and, I’m going to see if this will work or not.
Started with dry rock, live sand. And added water.
Everything new.

I’ll post update and see if the theory of you can’t add SPS until 6 months passes true or not.

What type of SPS? Any bacteria dosing? They are animals so I hope you’re right

I’m doing this with a ton of acro and pavona but established rock and I think the tank might be a few months old idk really 😂

It's certainly possible to do, but I wouldn't recommend it. Your tank is going to go through a lot of changes in the first couple of months, and water chemistry is going to fluctuate. More power to you for wanting to try this, but it is not something I would recommend

You probably should order some live rock so you have some bacteria diversity. The Tampa Bay live rock comes bagged and submerged so there isn’t much die off. I’d go this route as a bare minimum if you’re going to add coral so soon.

Second this. I used tbs rock in my first tank I set up a couple months ago. Put a Bali green slimer in as a test and it’s growing so far. I guess I don’t know for sure that the rock is the reason but I’m positive it has helped.

My theory is that the live rock from the ocean contains enough “good” or at least “neutral” bacteria to displace the kind that likely attacks corals. Pretty sure RTN and STN are due to bad bacteria infections…

I used TBS in our pico tank, and wished I went that route for our 20g

the theory of you can’t add SPS until 6 months passes true or not.
The theory is about the reefer (mostly beginners) more than the tank, but of course the two usually go together! :D

The corals obviously don't know or care how old the tank is. :)

Still, cool experiment!! Pics would be interesting. Can you tell us what you're actually growing? ("SPS" is a mostly empty term.)

I added 3 frags yesterday around 11 AM … 1 bleached within 4 hours and 2 has survived until this moment and polyps out.

Frags of what though? There's a difference between trying to add a piece of Pavona vs. a piece of Acropora, even if they are both SPS 🙃

It is not to difficult if you keep feeding and fish population at a minimum. Problem is people start worrying about nutrients and dinos. Soon after they start polluting and everything dies or get overrun with algae. Probably quitting soon after…

My start was two years ago with dry rock and within a week added corals and some CUC, but waited about a month for fish; the big polluters.

Circle corals were added right away and all are fine today…
