Water is a little cloudy today. I'm thinking bacterial bloom from all the extra food from the phytoplankton. We've also had some crazy film algae growth on the glass since the big water change. I have to clean it off several times a day because the glass will be visibly green. I'll stop dosing for a little while, then back way off on the amount. I've got some water mixing up for my pre Reef Dreams water change. Heading out to the local chain pet store right now in search of some ghost shrimps.

Jeez we were just starting to discuss the benefits to tanks of leather corals helping with nutrient export and the turtles interject actual tank stuff! ;)

I've been suffering from this for the past month. Everyday I have to scrape the glass for visible green dust. If I do it too early in the day, I will need to do it again a couple hours later. I don't dose anything so I am unsure what the cause

Yep, exact same thing I have. Scrape in morning before lights on, mid light cycle then when I got home from work in the morning, scrape again. Needs cleaning twice a day.

At least it’s not Dino. That’s how I view the algea in my tank. Once you deal with the beast everything else is ok.

Everything was looking great so we stopped by Aquarium Specialty and picked up two corals. I know, I couldnt wait until Saturday.

But, it's not all sunshines and rainbows when I get home...

Smiley is growing dinos again. "Four letter S word", thats why the water was cloudy this morning. Don't panic, there's a perfectly good reason why this is happening and an easy fix. Just think, what have we changed. What is different since everything looked good....

The refugium! We added a light and a big clump of chaeto! Quick, Turtle, go test nitrates...

20180315_182134.jpg

They're as yellow as pee! 0ppm Nitrates, no wonder the dinos came back. Time to beat the suckers back with less chaeto more food and another water change to pull some of the ones floating around clouding up my water..

So, which chaeto do we keep? The reactor? Hard to get to, potential to leak out side the sump, but has been working fine for two weeks. Or the refugium? Easy access, has mud, no chance to leak. Yep, unplug the reactor. The whole leaking outside the sump thing doesn't set well with me.

Fish get fed double tonight. Refugium light on for 12 hours instead of 16... oh we picked up some more frozen for Maui too. Silver sides, which seem huge but we'll try, and krill, which look to be the perfect size for feeding.

You need a certain pirate game to come out so you can slow down and give the tank a chance to stabilize!!!!!! o_O

Yep you know the path it’s keeping the system balanced. You know how to beat these guys. I would also throw in some more carbon jic.

If you can pull smiley and give him bath with

That may really help.

Haha, yea... the 20th can't get here fast enough. It's not a bad outbreak, my corals still look good and it looks like it's concentrated to Smiley and the conch's shell. I'll get nutrients back up. This isn't the end of the world.
