What’s wrong with my tang?

I just noticed this white spot on the top left side of my WTB tang, and I’m freaking out because I somewhat recently treated my whole tank with a 35 day hyposalinity treatment before I moved all my corals and inverts into here, but that’s no longer an option. It doesn’t look like ich anyways but I wanna know asap what this is because it wasn’t on her yesterday and I’ve already lost one tang that I was deeply attached to a few months ago. Attaching pictures along with a link to a youtube short of her. It’s much more opaque than it looks in the pictures, but the video does it more justice.

That's one fat tang! Might be a injury like a sting or bump. Should heal quick.

Omg really? Compared to the sailfin in the 750g display at work she’s really skinny, but then again that guy’s literally got a double chin!

I have been wondering though, what is a healthy fat level for tangs? I know some people like to beef them up as much as they can, but is that a good thing to do?

It looks like an injury or sting - I would observe

He’s acting very normal. Nothing on his gills or fins.

I also have a WT bristletooth about the same size as yours although sometimes I wish I didn't. I wouldn't worry as mine has injuries just like that all the time from chasing my algae blenny around my tank. They heal very fast in just a couple of days. Also, they seem to be very active, frantic, algae eating machines, yours looks fat to me!

I’d agree, this isn’t a parasite, just an injury. Possibly from another tang, but in the video, this tang bowled over one of waspfish, who then erected its dorsal spines in defense……so it is a likely cause.

I unfortunately know what you mean, mine is 10x more aggressive than my blue eye kole was. It hasn’t caused any major issues but it does scare me to see how territorial and food greedy she is.

Update: the spot has disappeared already within just a day.

with tangs.... health issues usually show up in their eyes and right above them (top of the head). or around their mouth or on their swimming fins

Also do fish not always die when stung with venom? Every time I’ve seen it happen at my LFS the poor thing ends up on the bottom of the tank in agony before finally passing.

No - depends on the species of scorpionfish, but many of them don’t have fatal stings to other fish.
