What would you do?

Im still ugrading,but dont know what to do.Help!

1)I can build a new acrylic tank thats 30 gallon rimless system.

2)Take and re-build the old 100 chest tank setting in the garage which has a leak that needs to be fixed.

3)Try to work with the tank I have now which suck as it is a 55 and have no room to scape anything.

4)Buy a brand new system from Petland like the Osaka system which is on sale for $399,which it is normaly like $799.

What would you do.I need a new tank,and would love to go rimless,but I dont know what to do.I have all the options and dont know what sounds best,and I dont really care about cost of the system as most of the more expensive stuff is better(like bubble magnus skimmer for example),and I want my corals to be happy and not have a problem like I did at th estart of the year where phosphates and cyano took over and lost alot.

Let me know what you would do.I need to know,I dont care whats the simplest or the cheapest,I just want a coral happy system that will work!

i hate choices and now you want to to choose for you. that system for 399 what are specs on that? if it was bigger then the 55 i might do that if i had the cash.

The one for $399.99 is an Italy made Osaka system from Fluval.

Its a 40-45 gallon system and its a cube style tank.I like them alot,but then I really like the cube acrylic tank I can make for less than half the cost but it would be just as good.

I hate choices also.Expacially in this hobby.

I would go with what ever is bigger. Looks like the 100 gallon is looking better and better.

100 chest tank here too little work and it should be fine. but overall i would think about your plans now not know long term cost would be my second reason for choosing any of these options.

To set up the 100,I would have to buy a few things.

2 new t5 fixtures 36 inches a piece=$400
2 ballets=$240
Bubls=$160
Reflectors=$184

2 ecotech vortech pumps=$889.98

New Octopus Skimmer Dual 6=$314.99

Rough idea of cost,mabey extra 2-3 hundred added on to that for a grad total of:

$1243.97

The 100g not worth fixing. To do it right would be the same as buying new. Post it on Craigslist for $50 for some snake or lizard guy. You can find a complete system on CL for $600-$1000.

Im not rich by anymeans,I just budget,I dont have a job that pays $200,000 a year,I live just like the next guy does(unless your some hollywood actor).

And when it comes to the reefeing hobby,its kinda like go big or go home,but with money.Spend more or go home I guess?But thats not always true,but tell me how many SPS tanks do you see that are nice TOTM quality that dont have some type of money invested in them?I dont want to skimp is the problem,and I can by far go cheap and do that 100 for under $500 but thats with some cheap lighting and cheap pumps.Thats not my choice.

The 100 gallon was given to me,so I cant complaine because it was free.

A closed loop system would be nice,but ocean motions can get hot and cause heat problems,making my tank undstable,which dosent mix with SPS at all.

So Im thinking what would be cool to do is build a 30 gallon rimless cube tank.I can build it pretty easy.

But ya,100 not worth it at all,and I live just like anyother guy,month to month,year to year,same ol' same ol' stuff every day.LOL

The 30 gal rimless would be nice, but maybe too small. The 100 like ddinox64 said not really worth it. The 55, I agree with you. Hard to any thing with being so shallow in depth.
The osaka system is not a reef ready system. For the price of it, you could find a little bigger, reef ready tank and possibly full system on craigs list and I think you would be happier. I started with a 55 with a HOB overflow and I am much happier with the reef ready tanks I have now.

Ya,I have had like 5 diffrent tanks the past 7 years and by far the 55 has been the wrost of them all.

The osaka isnt a reef ready system,which isnt quite what Im looking for,but would be nice,to be honest,the most important thing to me is the rimless touch.I also honestly dont want it very tall at all.I think its better shallow,I look at it like the shallower the tank,the shorter the corals have to grow to look bigger in my tank,therefor making it look like a full colony.Understand that...lol?

Im also thinking it might be nice to go with a 36"x24"x12" tall tank for a total of 45 gallons making a nice system where I could place 3 tabling stuctures and not having to use hardly any rock but 3 flat pieces and a few pieces to prop the tables up on.And then again using littel rock,I can allow for tabling acropora,and montipora to grow larger,and expand in outward growth more than ever,this wouldnt be possible if I were to go with the Osaka or the 30 rimless.

After all,it seems I have it boiled down to a DIY tank,more likly a 36"x24"x12".And it does seem there are many advantages to this style system over a taller,more normal system.

Your opinions on this?

look on craigslist tanks for sell on there all the time. there was a full setup 125 for free here the other day becuase guy cheated on his wife and she wasnt getting it out of her house. ive seen several 75 and 90 gal setups on craigslist ehre for under $250 or find someone taht is upgrading, ya stilll might have to buy a few things but if you got with a 75 or 90 your lights will still work as they are 48" long like the 55. and a DIY over flow isnt to hard to do if its not RR

but thats just my .02

Sounds like you have made up your mind.
Go rimless and build your tank (12" in my opinion isn't enough to work with though).

How about a 60G 24" x 24" x 24" :)
Or 31 gallon 20"w x 20"L x 18"H

Great idea,but I think a 31 isnt wide enough,I think I really need to go with a 24" wide tank to keep my rock work spacy.

I think if I were to go 18" i would be okay,I just need to get my rock work 12" inches tall to leave 4-5 inches of growth for corals.

But there is still so many options for lighting....ughhhh.

Well,Im about to maybe buy a 125,great deal for $250,but cant get ahold of the guy who has it,we'll see what happens.
