When Companies delete facebook posts

Same gist with R2R though isn’t it? Many different opinions on here for the same thing, just like the news.

Down to us all to figure out what should be taken as correct for ourselves.
I think a big difference here is that R2R isn't screening your posts or changing your feed based on your reefing behavior or opinions. FB does this. It creates an echo chamber. And this is coming from someone who does use FB.

Does it not? I've always wondered why some big name vendors always seem to appear in the "trending" sub category when they are brand new posts or have zero replies that literally arent "trending"? (Joking of course - ish)

I get what your saying, I just dont believe this makes that platform toxic. Just because it shows me something on the same subject as it shows you something on the same subject in two completely different contexts, does not mean either of us need to take it as gospel. Any platform for words is only taken the way the user interprets it full stop.

Back to the subject of deleting posts as a company i understand people think it can be acceptable because it can destroy a brand - However, is it really that detrimental to keep the posts up and have a fix in place for said complaint out in the open? Seeing 10 complaints on a brand does not scare me from using that brand if all 10 have a fix or attempt at help out in the open, however seeing a post regarding a very costly problem and seeing a comment from staff saying "Contact support" and then it being closed so no one can offer help, then deleted for good, does - We all know to contact support, that user was there for some reassurance from a group that has more eyes on it than most other platforms............but maybe thats just me.

Agreed. Every company/vendor is going to have both positive & negative reviews. The latter doesn't scare me away. Seeing how a company responds to a negative review is how I make up my mind, because that might be me if I have a problem with their product. And vendors don't need to kiss butt or cave in to unreasonable demands to make something right. I think most people are just looking for common sense and fairness.

Agreed. It's the interpretation of information that ultimately makes it toxic, and a lack of access to certain info which may help offset other opinions can ultimately create a misinterpretation of information. As I said, I use FB and I think it has its place. My concern (and I realize I'm drifting slightly off-topic here) is when people are not cognizant of the fact that they aren't getting full information when kept within an echo chamber. For example, I think FB works fine for a social platform and keeping up with what's going on with specific entities and people, but I think it is deficient as a news source. IMO we need to know the purpose and usefulness of individual online media platforms. Otherwise, we may end up trying to use a screwdriver to drive a nail, so to speak.

Anywho, I know I'm definitely drifting off topic at this point, so feel free to ignore my post and stay with the discussion. I may be mostly just following my own train of thought here, and that train often goes to stations that aren't in a straight line. :)

I think some might argue that R2R has become an echo chamber. Praise/positivity is encouraged; voices of dissent are locked or deleted. Or perhaps more accurately, how certain topics (e.g. atheism, coronavirus) have been labeled as taboo. That strategy might succeed in the short-term, but usually backfires in the end.

I was actually just thinking about this exact thing yesterday while washing my car, those two topics too. So weird.

So I care almost nothing about the individual customer’s comment or complaint, whether it’s an honest problem, or even someone bashing a company publicly, the only thing I care about is how the company handles the situation. There’s several big name companies that I will NEVER deal with in the aquarium industry because of how they treat their customers (whether the customer is in the right or is totally wrong).

I worked in the service industry for more years than I would have cared to, I’ve worked for companies that handled their customers the wrong way and companies that handle their customers and customer service better than anyone else in their industry. The one who did customer service better than any other company is also the benchmark and most successful in the world in that particular industry, and it is purely because of their customer service. It is so important to them, that if you aren’t willing to give that level of service then you don’t work for them anymore. You even have to treat your fellow employees with the same dignity and service as the customers, and you know what? It was the happiest most positive place I have ever had the privilege of working for. So their corporate culture didn’t only make their customers happy, but their entire organization from the top down were amazing, friendly, and generally very happy content employees willing to give everything and anything they could. They also had the lowest employee turn over I have ever seen in ANY industry or company I have been involved in. (At the property I was at the time 95% of their original hired employees were still employees after 15 years!).

No conspiracy just trying to do what is best for the whole of the community.

As someone who has been on the other side of the negative social media post I will just say that part of being a good human being is contacting the Vendor first.

I remember a time when working for the LFS where we installed a custom glass tank with a rimless coast to coast glass over flow. It was the first time the manufacture had ever built anything of the type but they were a reputable manufacture and they assured us the design was sound. After a month the glass overflow peeled away from the tank causing a huge flood. Before we received a call there was a huge stream of posts on social media talking about how the shop wouldn't do anything. We did clean up the room replace the tank and house all of the customer's livestock while the new tank was being manufactured plus give them additional store credit for more livestock but the social media post did not reflect this. We asked the customer if they would be ok deleting the post and they agreed. Then we caught flak for deleting the post.

It still bothers me on reef2reef when I see customers looking for community help before consulting the manufacture. Many manufactures are ready and willing to help. Please give them a chance to.

Remember the golden rule of social media the internet is forever.

I have a problem with them when you give them a chance and they jerk you around for several days and then decide to ignore you. In my case sending me a cheap piece of tubing to replace one that failed would have gone a long way. Instead, I had to source a part elsewhere. I supported the company up until they stopped supporting me.

To me, if a company only does work on Facebook, and doesn't create their OWN website, this raises red flags.
I understand profit margins are tight and money needs to be saved every place they can, but, doing these practices (deleting posts) harms the bottom line more than just paying for, and maintaining your OWN website that has REAL customer support.

What company doesn't like free advertising?
What company doesn't like a free platform to post pics/promote knowing data is money?

What these companies miss is not everyone uses/likes Facebook, and deleting posts on said platform doesn't go unnoticed. That costs more, I would think, than to just make a site, maintain it, and use that for any product issues, because only the company would see it. Seems like a case of Vera shooting off her own pinky-toe.

Agree? Disagree?
1000% agree only time I look at stuff on facebook is from locals selling stuff on the market.if they dont have a legit website no thanks and Twitter just seems like a better site for this type of thing

I completely understand and agree. Without mentioning the name of the vendor we all know we are talking about I will say there is a misunderstanding many vendors from Europe have about the US.

Many European vendors dramatically underestimate the power of ecommerce in the US. The LFS is important but the pervasiveness of online shopping in the US far surpasses that of Europe. The country is huge and distribution is far more difficult due to size and low population density relative to Europe. There are also different standards when it comes to warranty. US consumers expect far more from the manufacture while many European distributors put far more responsibility on the retailer.

As a retailer I loved working with said questionable company because they gave us huge amounts of discretion with customer warranties. As a modern American consumer who does large amounts of shopping online and likely doesn't have a very well stocked LFS the experience can be horrible. Good local warranty support requires that retailers have large inventories on hand to offer replacement parts and knowledgeable staff willing to spend time repairing products. Unfortunately this is uncommon in the modern LFS. How Many LFS's stock replacement impellers or powersupplies for popular products?

Is that a fair comparison? It’s not like it’s a religious forum, it’s about aquariums.

I guess the point is discussion of religion/faith is welcomed, but anything to the contrary is shunned. Because that is the owner (a pastor) preference. Fair enough, but that does alienate some very knowledgable people in this hobby as they tend to be more science minded. I personally believe in God, but discussions on atheism/agnosticism do not frighten me. ;)

This thread is about Facebook posts being removed. Can we please get it back on topic and keep it there. If you have questions about decisions that were made pm a Moderator please.
Quick bump....

I just skipped ahead as my BP started to spike, FB sites are yours or theirs, If you want it out there put it on your page.
Vendors use it for advertising or to promote their product. Of course, they will remove your rants or negative posts.
This is the place for neutral ground relating to salty stuff. Mods are good about it too, they will let it all fly before they clean it up. Kudos

The crazy thing is I have never been on the specific facebook page in question but I knew right away who the OP was talking about, and it seems I am not alone ;Meh

We have a prayer thread but we do not discuss religion and that was the whole point. We have atheist that posts within that thread and even people who don't believe in God send well wishes to people dealing with issues in that thread. The atheism thread was already getting reports and was getting out of hand.

This thread needs to stay about FB or we will have to close it. I know who I am and the character and integrity I have when it comes to this place and I'm not going to allow it to be questioned. It's enough and I thank you for keeping the thread on topic from here on out.

If we question things, I think that’s human nature.

Isn’t this the point of the thread? Questioning why censorship is necessary... and what the underlying “real” reason is?

I personally do not trust the companies removing posts on Facebook.

I also am not decided on deleted posts on this site because I have certainly agreed with most of the decisions to remove/delete posts, but not some others.
