there may be a post on this already and I'm sorry if that's the case.

Anyway why do BTA split?

Happy vs unhappy?
Split to survive?

I've had the pleasure of watching 3 diff. BTA split in my time reef keeping. I Always contributed it to good health and them being happy. But my recent BTA tho seemed to be splitting during an equipment malfunction. One of my mp-10s decided to stop working. That changed the flow in the tank and Later that night I noticed it was splitting. This could just be coincidence but seemed odd it happened at the same time. Also I've never seen a bubble tip loosing tentacles which this one seemed to do.

Any ideas?

If a BTA is exposed to less than what a BTA considers ideal conditions self preservation kicks in. If a BTA is exposed to more than ideal conditions than it's the time to reproduce. As for tentacles falling off, many times it's a mature clown mouthing the tentacles. As to why clown fish do this is up for speculation, some say nutritional supplementation, some say it aids in developing the mucous coating.

Any info on tentacles that twist up? Just the flow doing it?

Nope no reputable info, same with why do BTA bubble and not bubble and bubble.......
Neither incident seems to be detrimental though.
