Well, after starting over 2 months ago, I figure I ought to start an official tank thread so that I can post updates and others can follow along on this journey.

I posted in the welcome page about 1 month ago, but I’ll provide a few tank specs so that you can follow along.

I have a rimless 6.6 gallon cube with a 30 W Nicrew Hyperreef light, hob filter, hygge nano wave maker, and a heater that I keep at 78°.

I have a few coral frags and am still adding here and there. I have 4 different Zoa frags, a Poci frag, a Candy Cane, gsp that came on a fairly decent size of live rock, some toxic green Palys, Florida Ricordeas, and a duncan coral. For cuc, I have 2 scarlet hermits, 2 astreas, and some hitchhikers (I ended up with a brittle starfish who I have seen more of recently, and 3-4 stomatella snails who came in very small) I also had a ton of copepods during my diatom bloom all of which have balanced themselves out.

About a week ago, I came back from a 2 week trip, which I was nervous about, but all seemed fairly healthy. My ATO seemed to work, and my corals seemed happy (I even saw a good amount of growth on the candy cane and gsp), but the gsp live rock had coralline algae that bleached. My Poci also looked like it had bleached some, but it’s polyps are extending and still green. It’s come back around some since I did my water change as well.

Other than that, I still do 50% water changes weekly and everything seems happy and healthy thus far.

Looking good. Why did you start over
ahhh I think I could have worded that better! ;) I meant “starting this nano a little over 2 months ago”. That being said, I did start reefing again after about a 12 year hiatus: college, and life got in the way and I decided to jump back into it! Wow, how much has changed in that amount of time!

Welcome back! Lots of good change out there. Tang police are still around so watch it.

How's that hygger wavemaker. Been looking into but haven't heard any trustworthy reviews on it... so haven't pulled the trigger yet.
For my 6.6 gallons, it is working really well. It has a controller that is a bit confusing at first, but it provides varying settings through the day, and the strength, type, and length of movement can all be adjusted. It also has a strong flow at its highest setting, so I had to lower it. Since I’ve set it, I’ve mainly let it do it’s thing, but I’ve been impressed with it. It also has a 10 minute feeding setting where it stops for 10 min (not sure if that time can be lengthened, but it’s currently on 10). I also liked the size of it and that it’s magnetic instead of a suction stick on. I wanted something small and discreet, but with a good amount of flow, and the hygger provides that.

I picked up a red montipora digitata. I initially left it on the sand bed to allow it to adjust, but have since glued it to it’s final (hopefully) spot. It’s polyps are mostly out. I’m a bit nervous about my light settings, and since it’s mixed reef I’ll want to find the right balance. I have some idea of the strength of the Nicrew and have read positive reviews on par readings, but am curious how many reefers test par levels, or if you typically feel it out and base it on the success of your corals.

Should be fine. I'm using the 50 watt nicrew on mines.

Made a few changes to the tank: I added a couple of Zoa frags and a blasto.

I also recently learned a bit more about my toxic green Palys that I have, and many people consider them a nuisance, as they grow rapidly and are some of the most toxic (which makes them difficult to remove)… I’m debating on whether I should pull them out before they grow too much (they’re currently on their frag rocks, but not for long).
