Hey all
So I recently upgraded to a 75 gallon tank. Instantly cycled and all set up. Currently I have:
Coral beauty
Royal grMma
Sleeper Banded goby
Springers damsel
2 clowns
Chalk bass
Coral banded shrimp
2 crabs
Starfish
There is no aggression atm. Sometimes the coral beauty and goby square up but nothing comes of it. Also might move the banded shrimp he’s getting a little aggressive and actually grabbed a hold of my clowns somehow and hurt his tail a bit.
I am wanting to add
One spot foxface
Wrasse (Melanurus, or others suggestions)
Filefish maybe
Blenny
Maybe One or two more chalk basses or springers, more than likely bass
Cleaner shrimp (if I remove the cbs)

What do y’all think? Will my beauty and foxface square off? I’d hate to upset the beauty he’s definitely the boss. Which wrasses do y’all think? And will a cleaner sheimp be alright?
Thank you!!

Thanks for the reply. I really don’t want a tang. Even a small one spot foxface? I heard they would be alright

I thought the same thing, then I went to the LFS to pick up the foxface and saw how big it already was and changed my mind. Why don't you want a tang?

If you're wanting a utility, algae-eating fish, most of the bristletooth tangs (family Ctenochaetus) are a good fit for a 75g. Tomini and Whitetail are the kind of "showpiece" versions from that family, but you don't have to go for one of them. Two-spot, shorttail, blue-lip, yellow-ring kole, and a few more.

For the rest of your fish: Melanarus is a good wrasse for a 75g, great at going after small invertebrate pests. They'll also go after crabs and shrimp - I can't keep any emerald crabs with mine because he thinks that they're a good snack. You can also keep almost any flasher or fairy wrasse in a 75g, though those won't offer the utility of a Melanarus.

Is your tank a reef or a FOWLR? If it's a reef, only consider the filefish with great caution, and try to get one of the Biota captive-bred filefish. They will eat aiptasia, but are pretty lazy about it. They'll also sometimes go after zoanthids and LPS corals. I've had 3 different filefish over the years. Two ate aiptasia, two ate zoanthids, one only ate whatever I fed the tank. The one I currently have is a model citizen except for the fact that he's very lazy about eating aiptasia. He really only goes after the aiptasia after I cook them for him.

Blennies are basically always a good option for any tank. Tons of different options for a 75g. I personally have a Midas blenny, but you can just go shopping through the options and pick out whatever blenny you think looks nicest. Some, but not all, will eat algae, but definitely not at the level of a tang. Some blennies can be a bit mean, so do your research before you pull the trigger, but most are peaceful, friendly and interesting fish.

Thanks so much for the reply! For tangs I’m just worried about them being ich magnets and aggressive to fish. But I will look into those types of tangs you suggested. My tank is a FOWLR, no corals. Is there a particular tang you think is hardy and best with the tank mates? I just want a fish like a tang but without that finicky ich magnet type which is why I thought the foxface was best

Go ahead with the foxface. The Magnificent Foxface does get to be a bit big for a 75 gallon. The One Spot and Fiji are both bit smaller. They are grazers not necessarily speed swimmers like some of the tangs.
I have a Fiji in my 75 for two years now and all is well. I also have a Scopas tang that hangs with the Foxface as best buds. Lots of rock with holes for both to zig zag and swim through and around.

Sweet so my stock list seems alright with the fox and wrasse etc? I might now do a file fish
