Did a ~15g water change. Cleaned the glass, stirred the sand, changed the filter sock. Skimmer still acting up. Fed the corals rotifers. Also noticed the light come on for about 3 seconds at 10:40 when it should be off. Weird.

Don't mind the random thermometers.

Here's a pic of the drains when looking into the overflow box. The left is the emergency drain and the right (submerged) is the smaller main drain with a strainer on it. I think the water level is a little higher than I'd like so I'll probably adjust the gate valve later on today.

Here's a pic under the tank. Left flex tubing is the emergency drain (I should have put a union there btw), middle is main drain with gate valve, right is return line with a little foam square to help with vibration noise. The flex tubing connects to pvc which goes up over the rim of the tank, behind the box so it's hidden and not visible through the back glass when looking at the tank.

Honestly not sure but I wouldn't recommend doing it in reverse because what's the point of an emergency drain if it can't handle a real emergency? The emergency drain should be at least the same diameter as the main drain, if not larger. In the event of a full main clog, a smaller emergency drain won't be able to pick up the slack.

Well I'm looking to push 2000 gph thru my sump and I just don't think 3/4 is going to do it. What return pump do you have

Mag 7 (700gph) only 1/2" plumbing on the return.
So not a ton of flow through the sump, definitely nowhere near 2000 gph, I don't see a need for that much on my system.

edit: also if youre going for so much flow through your sump you will definitely want a reliable emergency drain. Otherwise you're gonna pump 2000gph straight over the sides of your display and onto the floor if the drain clogs. :)

I plan on putting the tank in the bathtub for that reason . It's actually not that much if u think about it only about 15 times turnover 3/4 at full syphon van handle close to 1200 like 1100 or something like that.
Thanks for ur help means a lot now get that tank in order and kick some but

You guys will love this Acan. It's yellow and it was only $10.

I wish my phone would pick up its color better.

I also set up my 29g as an observational qt on preparation for a fish that will be arriving first thing tomorrow morning.

I'm very excited about it.

But... It can't all be good.
I found bryopsis in my display. Bryopsis. No idea how or where it came from but it's on my glass and rocks, not much, but it's there. So... I think I'll be trying fluconazole. Although probably not yet, gotta wait for my next paycheck.

I'll update as soon as my fish arrives.

Muffin ate some mysis earlier this morning but has been sleeping in the sandbox since I got home from work. It was dark in the room by the time I got home so I guess he turned in for the night. I put a very old power compact light over the tank so he can better adjust to my schedule. Hopefully he comes out tomorrow morning.

Muffin keeps going to sleep before I can give him dinner, but eats a lot for breakfast. I was originally going to keep him in qt for 2 weeks but I think I'm going to move him sooner since this fish has already been qt'd and prophylactically treated. The display will be a more natural habitat for him, so I would hope he would feel more comfortable staying out long enough for another meal.

Still dealing with diatoms in the display, as well as a little bit of hair algae and bryopsis. I'm not really too concerned at this point but I'm definitely going to get some fluconazole.
