Just posting as info since Mrs wages is cheaper and readily available locally for most people.

That Mrs wages I posted is all I used for years when I ran my tank on kalk. I don't think there's any difference between it and what is marketed as kalk

Well all aptasia X does is destroy the mouth you inject, and merely cause that mouth to defensively split into more mouths.. so no loss really.

Berghia nudibranchs are the only thing I’ve seen eradicate a tank of aptasia.

That's because it has been discontinued not due to tariffs..geez
I think they pulled it off the shelf until they can determine if it has to be relabeled due to regulatory compliance questions as a result of the algaecide ruling.

You can find Mrs. Wages Pickling Lime anywhere they sell stuff for canning fruits, veggies, pickles, etc., including your local Mega-Lo-Mart.

Wow. I still have a bottle from about 8 years ago, I think the sticker says $16.99.

thats nuts.
I had to check for myself... $87 is crazy! I think I heard someplace that a kalkwasser paste will work to kill them.

Boiling water in a syringe kills them.

I see a ton of recommendations for Berghia's... likely your best solution but only you have no wrasses otherwise you're just buying exotic snacks for your fish.

I know the OP said no biological solutions, but since that seal has been broken a number of times already, I'll add that nothing I tried worked until the berghia and CBB went in. A couple of weeks after that and I stopped seeing aiptasia.

A file fish worked well, but started eating my euphyllia. The day after I rehomed the filefish I started seeing aiptasia again. I'm banking on the CBB to behave itself, and live a long time :)

From my personal experience...
CBB: only eat frozen so can be challenging while on vacations
Kleine: eats pellets & nori but may go after some zoas

Few things to note about predators (fish, Berghia's, shrimp).

  • Display size may limit options
  • Shrimp sometimes are sold as peppermint but not, also note they are opportunistic feeders
  • Cost may play a role (price per Berghia's = expensive)
  • Animals do their own thing - we don't get to interview prior to adding. Works for me, may not for you, etc

Aiptasia-x is now $87 (on amazon, for 2.2oz). I'm assuming this is a tariff issue. All the suppliers are either out of stock or just as expensive.
So...what other anti-aiptasia product do you suggest? I do not like the real watery compounds, I'm looking for a thicker gunk that stays where I put it.
And I'm talking a chemical solution, not a biological one (fish/shrimp/nudibranch). But one that that's too caustic.
Thanks!
Make your own.

It is nothing more than Sodium Hydroxide and Calcium Chloride.

I also recommend f aptasia. I was fighting with aptasia x for months and they kept coming back more and more. F killed them and I haven't had one in months. Now gha is my battle. Always something...

The main problem some folks have with Aiptasia X is not following the directions correctly.

You must turn off all flow for 5 minutes before using the product and then leave all flow off for at least 10 minutes after using - I leave it off for 20 minutes.

That way the Aiptasia do not get the chance to wait it out and have to suck it in.

It always works fine in my tank.

Berghia Nudibranchs are awesome, took out the apitasis in my very infested macro algae tank once they got going in a very short time. I did not have any thing that would eat them. Maybe some amphipods, but no major predator's. I am hoping to try to keep a few alive to take care of any new outbreaks.
If you lived near Aransas Pass, Texas I could give your 10 or more. Not sure what I will do with the small 50 that look like lunch has almost disappeared.
My CBB keeps them out of my display, the Molly Miller keeps them from spreading in another tank, peppermint shrimp work on the sump. My filefish I never see him eat anything.
Good luck.
