I found it in that RC thread, you have to go down more to get to the vid. You have any video it going into the tank?

I haven't ever used one they are definitely cool though. The Seattle Aquarium has a real cool surge tank, I have a vid of it somewhere and I'll have to find it and post it up.

Yeah, find it for me. :) I need to lookup that surge tank thread on RC with the Kosair build. It was awesome.

I am not sure if I uploaded it or not, it was really cool though, it surged as much as an avg wave does on a normal day. Probably like 1 to 2 feet.

Our Buddy Steve Mac uses a surge tank on his beast reef.. he also uses his Koi pond to cool his reef and his reef to heat his koi pond.. :nerd:

I ran two 9 gallon dumps on a 180 gallon for 6 months with 1 1/2 inch pipes. both surge tanks were fed with one 1475 gph
pump which totally randomized the dumps. The tank was really awsome running that way sometimes they would dump at
the same time. I actually think that was the best that tank ever was. But my water evaporation went to more than
5 gallons a day from just over 1 gallon before, that got to be more hassle than I was willing to put up with so they got removed.
All water that returned from the sump was returned via the surge tanks.

Nice. I thought about just doing some 10 gal surges on the new tank. Something small enough to handle, but big enough to actually create a nice surge on the reef.

WOW that is one sweet tank! I take it that when the air bubbles came in is when it dumped the surge?

The air bubbles were at the start of the surge and then the heaviest flow action happens after that. That's why you add a John Guest fitting to help release some of that air pressure and stop some, not all of the bubbles.
