Hi!

First of all, I would like to thank you all for your help! Whenever I have a problem with my tank, you help me solve it ASAP!

Now to the issue: In the past few days, I noticed that a white spot appeared on the top of my clownfish. I have no idea what this could be, so I want to hear your opinion. I'll add some pictures I took for you. Also, if you have any tips or solutions for green hair algae, I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

Are you running carbon?
If yes…it is POSSOBLE… that it could cause HLLE if run constantly, and more likely if running too much too frequently. Of course most people never have issues running permanently. Clownfish are not really that likely to develop this but it is worth considering.

More likely, it could be a skin lesion from rubbing against rocks or being stung from an anemone that is hosting the clown.

You could leave and see if it gets worse, you could quarantine to ensure you are in the best position to medicate should that be required, and also help mitigate against the spread of it is a disease or pest related issue.

Regarding your algae issue, what are your nitrate and phosphate levels reading at?
Generally speaking, nuisance algae occurs when there is an imbalance of bacteria (in favour of the bad guys), and/or poor nutrient export.

  • Are you using a protein skimmer?
  • Are you using GFO?
  • Do you have adequate biological/mechanical filtration such as sand, rocks, ceramic media etc.?
  • What, and how often are you feeding?
  • What lights/intensity are you using and how long is the lighting schedule?
  • How old is this tank?
  • How often (if at all) are you performing water changes and how much?
  • What water are you using to replace during water changes and also for top off? What is the TDS reading of the water!
  • Parameters for nitrate, phosphate, pH, calcium, magnesium, alkalinity? (All can play a part in algae issues)
These are all things that you need to consider before a potential solution can be provided as they all can play a part in the control of algae.

Ping back an answer to each of those and we can be better placed to assist :)
