I need some input in just how heavy a custom hood can be (including lights). I have a 110g Oceanic that I would like to build a hood for, primarily, to house a pair of Viparspectra 135w. The lights themselves are surprisingly heavy. I would be using dimensional pine and as little hardware as possible. How much weight is too much? The tank itself is a beast; 1/2” thick glass, one of those monster glass crossbraces. It is rimmed and the frame for the hood would sit on all four sides of the rim. Any suggestions?

You could build it from 1x3 or 1x2, and use thing plywood to skin it. Maybe even smaller wood. I dont know. But I’m sure someone far more experienced will chime in!
