First things first
DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME. IF YOU TRY IT ANYWAYS AND THE TANK EXPLODES, DON’T SAY I DIDN’T WARN YOU.
So I have a bad habit of de-rimming pretty much any aquarium I can get my hands on (pictured below lol). I will say, as of yet I wouldn’t dare go any higher than 20G. So far it’s been filled with water, sand, and rocks since August I believe? If it was going to bow/explode I wanted it to happen with nothing of value in the aquarium. No signs of bowing or stress. Planning on draining and then starting the tank up for real within the next month or so barring no life emergencies. I was very paranoid for a bit at first that I was just going to get woken up to a loud BOOM - luckily that never happened lol.
My plans for this aquarium are:
1. Maricultured live rock
2. Maintaining it like I do with FW setups - which is very minimal interference. Just like my pappy taught me
Editing to add: I only remove the top rim. In tanks that aren’t euro braced I think it mostly serves for aesthetic reasons (the glass underneath can be unsightly if you don’t sand it). The bottom rim however? Don’t even chance it
