So i thought i would try and document my rebuild of new grow out tank and current Display . I have been reefing for about 18 months and i have learned alot in that time. Kept a FOWLR tank before i tried coral. My tank has been up since August 2017, I had no idea what i was doing but found acros easy to keep so what started as a mix reef turned into acro dominant pretty quick. My plan is to install new grow out tank in the next month which is going to be 48x24x14, Cycle for a month and add coral from current grow out into it. Then at Chrissy time ill rip down my display and put coral into new grow out. Then add new scape to DT. I want display to just have corals that i have had in grow out for some time so i can see what they look like before adding to display. I didnt load up my display as i had a 6 week holiday planned a few months ago, now im back i can take my time doing it properly. Ill try and take some nice pics but i normally fail, its alot easier now i have t5's though(only added them 3 weeks ago)
Grow out tank had a massive GHA bloom when i was away so i just started glueing things into display so they wont die when i got back. Its a mess atm but it just temporary so i dont care.

So this is my current set up, the little tank will be replaced by the new grow out tank.

Here are some pics of the grow out tank, algae is ticking me off atm, it has got into my display and starting to pop up little shoots everywhere. I might have to start smashing it with peroxide as i dont want it to get too out of control before i rip the tank down. Lesson learnt, always remove frags off plugs!!

Couple pics of the hording tank. Alk dropped to 5dkh on Saturday, it was at 7.3 on Tuesday when i last tested, slowy getting it back to 7.3. Since i added t5's the consumption has doubled and a bit. Also changed trace supps to another local reefers stuff a few weeks ago, I started dosing supps at 12pm last Monday instead of 8am when lights are off. This is is the only thing i can think of why my consumption went up so much. Have been manually adding 120ml a day plus 280ml normal daily dose. Im at 6.3 atm. Just added another 60ml and will test later.

Well I am finally making some progress!! Tank just keeps getting delayed. Should have it the first week in Jan now:mad: Stand is built though so time for paint. Stand will be Matt black and the light bars white. The cladding will also be white. Slow progress is better than no progress is guess

Very nice stand! Did you do it yourself?
No i didn't, a local guy built it up. I just drew him what I need. I need the small bit next to it so I can access the display as the tank is wider than little one I have there now. More room now to run equipment. I'm getting a calcium reactor built in the new year too by a local company so that will sit under the grow out tank.

Stand painted and cladding is cut and ready to be painted. Burning in the lights for a week too. Par doesn't seem as high compared to Ati fixture I have but I think that may just be the bulbs burning in.

Finally i have a tank!! Unfortunately they missed supplying me the plumbing so i cant quite get it running yet. Stand is finished and came up really nice. Even the mrs likes how it looks. So close to getting this think running now.

Old frag tank has a new home too. Lets see how long i run this for. I want to use as a quarantine for new corals but really dont think i can be arsed. Trying to run on kalk but i cant get kh up. Sittimg at about 6.7 with slow drip all day. Might just get a doser for it

Finally have the tank plumbed into the main system. My return pump doesnt have enough power though to run the chiller, this tank , fuge and reactor so i will be upgrading it to a DCP10000. Chiller has been working pretty good over some hot days over here but now flow has really been reduced. The fans are keeping tank cool though.
Added in 2 x Jebao OW40 for flow. Need to break them in, these are really good pumps for the price. I have had these on display running for nearly 2 years now and they are dead silent. Just take about 2-3 weeks for them break in for some reason. Anyway here is a vid of the flow on random at 50% power. Let me know what you think. I think i can maybe just run them on constant instead of random. Im thinking of running tank for a few weeks before adding corals from old frag tank. Waiting for diatoms to start growing. Unsure if i should have light on or not also.
