DrewZ intro post and Kessil Ap700 schedule thread

Hey everyone!

Glad to have joined such a large reefing community that has the same passion I do! First off I have been into reefing for a little over a year as of today, started with fresh and lost intrest over time and loved the color of a reef. So I started with a 29 biocube and outgrew it quickly but learned a lot from it. Then drilled my 90 that was previously a freshwater tank to prepare it for a reef. Built the stand, filtration, and enjoyed every second of it. But as usual I wanted bigger... after a failed attempt at a90gallon cube(failed seem) I got a screaming deal on a 180 reef ready and that is what I am currently running. i will get into all the details in a day or so and edit the post as I have my family staring at me waiting to watch a movie

Another reason for this thread is to see everyone's schedule for their AP700 and what tank they are running it on. I have had ok luck and have had great success with some corals and not other. I have searched high and low for people's schedules and their experiences with no luck. I know other lights like Aqua illumination(AI) have ways of sharing and uploading schedules from other users and I would love it if Kessil could do the same.

Anyhow please post up your tank specs and lighting schedules for you AP700!

I have 2 ap700's above my 6' 180 gallon. They are 12" above he water. With the following schedule in the pictures. Only corals I have had problems with are acros (didn't light acclimate them), Acans (they do fine in my frag tank that has the same water), and Duncan's.

Hi Welcome to R2R! I've never owned a kessil so I wont be much help there.

I also have a 180, 2 AP700s. Mine are mounted 7" from the water. 12" seems too high to me. Why did you decide to mount them so high?

Here is my lighting program

I love the light. I don't dare take mine about 70% I will fry corals. You really have to acclimate any coral that goes in. I have found that green corals get fried much easier so be carful with those.

Awesome! I have them at 12" because that's what a local guy recommended lol I had them at 16" before. I forgot to mention I have slight diffusers on them as well. Thank you for posting your schedule though! Yours peaks for much longer than mine, I might have to make a few adjustments

Adjust based on your coral and system, do it very slowly.

Bring your light lower, 9" at most! Your light is way too high. Mine are 7" from the water. Post some pictures.

I use a PAR meter to know. You should too, if you can.

Unfortunately I do not have access to a par meter, but would like to eventually get one. Reason being is everything flourishes in my frag tank that is connected to the 180. And I am unable to lower the lights at the moment until I get some more cable, I trimmed the access [emoji107]. But here are some pictures [emoji106]. Tank is 2 months old

You cut them? ! That's too bad, I hope you don't have to buy a new kit. How bad is the light spill out of the tank?

I built a wall mount with black gas pipe. Ive had to buy them before and I got the cable at my local hardware store, so it's no big deal just a matter of time. But as far as the light spilling out I don't think too much gets out.

Tank update- decided to reconfigure the plumbing in my refugium and add a 3" sandbed for my mangroves and change up my macro algae to dragons breath(picking up today). Possibly going to make it a angler tank as well.

Also depending on how the dragons breath does I was contemplating on doing some feather caulerpa in the fuge. Only issue with that is them going sexual due to lighting schedule. As of now it is on 21hrs off 3

I don't tune my fuge light off, there is no need to.
