I wanted to post the video but it won’t let me.

I designed the baffles and cover with AutoCAD and had them laser cut. Then used Weld-on to bond the baffles together. Then used aqueon black silicone to secure it all in.

IMG_8235.jpeg

One problem with this tank I noticed is I undersized the emergency intake and if the water does dip below the baffles it will run dry so I will need to fix that on my next one

Filtration is just mechanical currently with filter floss. I plan to add in a refugium to the middle chamber. My next one will probably also be sized specific to a filter sock on the market.

Pump: aqqa I169 Light: popbloom RL60 Wavemaker: still need to add one but I’m using an old fluval pump for flow and the return is buzzing .

Stock: 1- gold hammer 1-favites 1- gsp frag 2- percula clowns and 1- green chromis

And a bunch of snails and blue legs.

Looks great my friend. Im picturing euphyllia running up the right side into sps on the top left. Of course this is your vision, and you have so many fantastic options.
Have you considered making a build thread? It would be easier for everyone to follow your progress and updates.

I’m sort of new to reef2reef. I mean I’ve been a lurker for years but I didn’t think of doing that. Not a bad idea.

I’m definitely thinking of doing some more euphyllia. It’s going to be a while before I get this filled out but I’m so excited to see what this tank grows into

That is creative! You actually can post videos on Reef2Reef. They just have to be YouTube videos. I usually will post a video as a private YouTube video, where only people here on Reef2Reef can see it (or those that share the link)

Thank you! I appreciate it. I think next is I’m going to design an upfed refugium or just turn the middle chamber into one and add a submersible LED. Not sure if that’s the way to go though honestly

What are you trying to achieve with the refugium? I assume lower nutrients. Sure refugiums work, and can be helpful.
I loaded my middle chamber with real live rock pieces and put a flat piece across the top of the rocks so I could add an extra piece of filter floss. The live rock pieces are small enough to fit in the back chamber, but big enough that they dont restrict flow. So I used that chamber for extra biological filtration with the live rocks, and another place to catch waste particles in the water flow with the extra filter pad on top. Another excellent, but slightly more expensive option is an upflow algae scrubber. Those are game changers.
These are just a couple of my thoughts. I wish you the best no matter what you decide.

Ill be honest. The idea of using the entire middle chamber as a refugium intrigues me though. 🤔

Honestly, I’m not too worried about nutrients. I’m more interested in the PH boost of running it nightly. The nutrient reduction is more of a secondary reason. Plus it’s a little more simple than a nano protein skimmer.

That’s why I’m thinking there’s something to experiment with because tumbling shouldn’t be an issue with the through put flow and if it is I’ll gladly add a small pump or bubbler.

I definitely want to see how the big refugium goes if you decide to do that. Each tank is unique and there are always multiple ways to have success. For a ph boost, it would be hard to beat the ATS.
This is a great company if you're interested in one.

Agreed. I never even installed the one that came with my tank. I did consider the tunze comline as an option at one point.

It’s actually really funny, in all my years of reefing I’ve never heard of this company but I came across them today on a random Facebook group. That’s just a weird coincidence you recommended them lol

My main reason in wanting to boost ph in this tank is I’m positive I have a high CO load in my house (myself, 3 kids, and wife and 3 dogs) but honestly I haven’t tested this tank so I’ll have to start there I guess.

I see a lot of high praise on the nano bubble magnus skimmer but I think a skimmer will just bring in the excess CO2 but I have never tried. I know my biocube was only good at growing GSP almost nothing else had any significant growth in almost a year. So I’m looking at different options with this tank. I’ll eventually start dosing all-for-reef as well.

Mini update:

I’ve created an acrylic lid. Just simply cut out a slot for the light mount and added a couple easy sps.

Lost an octospawn I think due to flow. I tried a cheap aqqa gyre and it was honestly too powerful even on the lowest setting. Everything else seems really happy except the digi which I think was getting too much light/flow I just tossed it to the bottom of the rubble and it seems to be doing better.

I’m currently reviving a dying Bali slimer from my LFS that seems to be doing much better now.
