Any interest in doing this repair for me? My eb832 just crapped out. Power outage this morning and when the power came back the eb832 did not. Only the outlets are dead. All the ports are good so I’m assuming it’s the 12v power supply. Let me know if you’re interested and what you think a fair price is.

Sure, I can do it for you if you don't want to solder the component yourself. I just fixed 14 for a local fish store this weekend!

Received an EB832 in bad condition due to a poor DIY repair attempt. Someone must have been unable to insert the new header pin through the board (due to improper desoldering equipment), and left the pins above the PCB with extremely bad contact. Solder was quite chunky with seemingly no flux used, and it sat on top of the pad instead of flowing through it.

Bad contact = no good. It arced and burned the main board.

I desoldered the left pad in the 2nd image to show the header pin not going through the PCB. The right pad is as received.

Great job hooking up your LFS. Hopefully they returned the favor. Thanks for spreading the word on this repair.

Got 16 broken EB832 from a local fish store, and was able to repair 14 of them in about 4 hours worth with this meanwell upgrade! Now I need to choose what to buy with my store credit :)

PS: I’m looking for a few people to send free meanwell adapter PCBs to in envelopes, to test if USPS will allow PCBs shipped as standard envelopes with 1 stamp.

Yes, I have about 280 of the adapter PCBs and 30 of the Meanwell PSUs.
Received mine on Friday, installed it this evening. Took about 10 mins and works perfectly!
Next, I'm going to upgrade my 2 other EB832's before they blow a capacitor.
Cannot thank you enough for making this available!
Cheers!

I didn't see this- glad you were able to install it!

There are at least 65 of these repair kits/repaired EB832s out in the wild. All the feedback has been great except one or two people who struggled to remove the original PSU due to not having the solder sucker.

It turns out I cannot send the bare PCBs in envelopes/ bubble mailers with a forever stamp. Got rejected.

I do have both bare PCBs and complete kits with MeanWell PSUs available now, but they need to ship with first class in a box.

How big of a device did someone connect to blow a fuse like this?!

Meanwell upgrade + fuse replacement! :)

@TheHarold so if I understand correctly one removes the older psu (de-solder) and clean up, then replace with new pcb adapter and psu. Direct fit, solder required. Necessary part here is to clean up previous solder and connects for ideal contact with new and lower risk of arc / spark. More or less it?

Exactly, see attached PDF instructions for this repair.

There are plenty of YouTube videos on repairing the EB832 with an original (low quality) power supply. The procedure of opening the EB832, desoldering the original PSU, and soldering in a new one is the same with this improved Meanwell power supply. My PCB adapter makes the pin location the same, with no wiring required.

It is very straightforward and your EB832 will never have the issue again. I repair 3-5 EB832s a week myself, and send out another ~6 repair kits weekly.

Thanks. If you had posted the PDF earlier I apologize as I missed it and should have seen it. I recently picked up a pair of used EB832's and thinking this would be a wise investment.
