That was my favorite book as well. I had read that on my own in 2nd or 3rd grade. Then my 4th grade teacher (Mrs. Kardos) read the entire thing to the whole class over several days. What were the Dog's names?.......they were similar names. Jim and Jane.....No.......WHAT WAS IT? Ann and Andy? No......I refuse to Google it! Ann and Sam.... No. Man, I'm not getting it. TELL ME!!!!As adults we can look back at our early childhood. Each generation are represented here on R2R. What book do you have the fondest memory of? Mine is Where The Red Fern Grows. Went to school in the early 70's

I remember those. Great booksI really got into the Goosebumps series in 6th grade and had the entire series up to 35-40.
Dan and Ann!!! Well, I got one of them! I remember the ending. I cried. It was the first book I read that affected me emotionally.Dan and little Ann
Yes! I read Black StallionAnother vote for Where the Red Fern Grows..... definitely my favorite book growing up.
The Black Stallion was another favorite as a kid.
Never knew them, but my wife said they were very good. Did you see there's a version of these coming on Hulu, looks kind of "adult"I really got into the Goosebumps series in 6th grade and had the entire series up to 35-40.
Nice ! I started reading Judy Blumes books Round 4th grade, then she wrote wifey and another of her more adult books around the 7th grade. By the time I was 14 -15 I started reading the clan of the cave bear series books. I skill re read theseDan and Ann!!! Well, I got one of them! I remember the ending. I cried. Yeah, Kindergarten for me was in 1969. My other favorite book was Steven King's Carrie. My Mom gave me that to read back in 1974 or so. She would then feed me books to read one after another. I was reading adult books very, very young. Now, I listen to them. I've put away about 450 books since 2015 (many read two or three times). I figure I go through 3 to 5 books a month.
Great thread, Cichlid Dad!Keep it going! I'm going to bed myself, nite all! Thank you so much for a great evening
To Kill a Mockingbird. Yes. I read that when I was in 2nd grade or so. I remember being confused about why black people were treated badly. I didn't understand racism. And I think that was the point. I certainly did discuss it with Dad afterwards. He schooled me well.Depends on what age I define as childhood.
I hated reading as a kid (still do) but my step mom would read me Where the Wild Things Are and Horton Hatches an Egg all the time when I was young
Middle school years I think my favorite book was To Kill a Mockingbird.
Favorite high school book was definitely 1984. Still one of my all time favorites.
I forgot all about Judy Blume! But I didn't tell my friends I read THOSE books. It simply wasn't cool! Read Clan of the Cave Bear, but was disappointed in the followup books. They were basically anthropology romance novels.Nice ! I started reading Judy Blumes books Round 4th grade, then she wrote wifey and another of her more adult books around the 7th grade. I mentioned To Kill A Mockingbird earlier as a pivotal book for me personally. I read it somewhere around junior high school. I wish it was introduced earlier. OK, I seriously need to stop posting and go to bed.....What I found amusing was that as a teenager, I would go to a used book store and pick put random horror books. I came across an author by the name of Richard Bachman. LOVED his books. They seemed familiar and were VERY well written. It was years later that I learned Richard Bachman was actually Stephen King. I was VERY amused.
