Here's the latest pic. I've sealed the frame with Kilz concrete sealer and have caulked every seam with white silicone. I've bought beadboard for the sides and next step is to paint them and put them on. Then it's time for the front and top. After a coat or two of white paint on the outside, I'll be done. I'm very excited! I'll post pics as I go.

Looking very nice and clean! Great work on the stand! I'm thinking of using the brush on Flex Seal to seal the bottom inside of the stand. Will first fill any gaps/holes with wood filler.

Sides are on!

I finished the inside of the sides with Kilz and used carpenter nails and wood glue to attach them. I countersunk the nails a little so I can use wood putty to get a smooth finish. Now I have to decide whether or not to add a clear glaze to the inside of the stand since the Kilz is sort of a rough finish. I think cleanups would be easier on a slick surface. After this, I'm building the sump so I can decide where the holes in the stand go and the design of the front. Any advice is welcome!

White waterproof silicone is also good for closing the seams too.

I just ended up going straight to flex seal. It filled in all the gaps and crevices really well. Also gave me a nice rubberized bottom which should help with vibrations.

By the way you're stand is coming along really well! Love it!!

Oh I see. You're talking about the wood seams, not the baffles. Where did you get the flex seal?

Yeah the seams between the joints of the 2x4 and side paneling on the inside of the stand.

I got the flex seal from Amazon. Not the cheapest product unfortunately. $40 for 32 oz. if you do get it get the 32 not 16. It costs really thick and 16 might not be enough.

Looking good!! I'm still debating between painting the back of my tank or using window film. I like the flexibility film will provide in case I want to remove it or try a different color.

Back of 40g drying. It needed several coats with about 30 minutes in between and some touch ups on thin spots after that. Here it is from the back. I'll post another pic from the front. It really looks nice!

I'll keep you posted. I'm not sure how durable it's going to be. It's scratched a few times already.

Stand and tank look great! It's so exciting when it all starts coming together. I don't see an overflow??? What are you doing about that?

I have the glass-holes 700 overflow and return. I just haven't drilled the tank yet. I'm chicken. I'm going to practice on an old 10g I have first.

So next up is the sump and plumbing. I'm going to get the glass cut for the dividers. Already have the aquarium silicone and all of the pvc parts. I'll need to get hole-drilling bits for the back of the stand for the pipes. I might drill the tank this weekend. I'm really nervous!

All the best with the tank drilling! I was too much of a chicken and had a friend whose drilled several tanks drill mine. It doesn't appear to be too difficult. Jus prepping everything perfectly is key.

Just thought I'd pass along another idea that was shared with me. For the bottom of the stand, in going to use those rubberized jigsaw tiles (the kind they use on play room and gym floors). They will help dampen a lot of the vibration. The other advantage is that if you do have some water spill inside it's easy to clean around the sump. But what goes under the sump is practically impossible to wipe without taking the sump out. These tiles slowly push water out from under them. The only downside is that they only seem to be available in black or grey. I too am going with all white interior so this light not work well with the color scheme. I still think I'm going to use it.
