Help please! Noticed around 3-4 days ago that my Neon blue striped mushroom was shrivelling up which it has never done in the months that i have owned it. Checked all parameters and everything is great so i thought it was just having a moment. Woke up this morning to just about everything in the tank looking quite sick. The normally happy elegance is closed and swollen, my frogspawns, hammers, blastos etc havent Opened and look terrible. On the other hand my bubble and leather are loving life. Parameters, light and temp have all been the same for months. The only thing i have moved is a fungia, Everything is how it has been for atleast 5 months. Ive done water changes and changed some filter media+ Added carbon but everything is getting worse.

What kind of water are you using in your water changes and top off?
I live on the ocean so we get water refills from the local saltwater Aquarium shop -who goes down to the ocean and gets natural sea water, tests it and makes sure the levels are correct and its safe then filters it

If it’s declining that rapidly there must be something else going on in my opinion.
I agree. Any chance the ocean water is polluted? We get that after rains here. You also mentioned you moved a coral.... Is it a leather? Read that those can be toxic when shedding or something like that?

Yeah maybe a bad batch of water i think i will change it again from a different source. I didnt move the leather but my blenny has discovered he can play in it. ? Long shot.. :(

leathers can poison the water but carbon should remove it.

Yes I would try another water source.

What about something silly like a new filter sock that wasn't rinsed?

I would look into this. I believe it is something “simple”. Do you mix your own salt? Do you get the filtered water from the same source?
All my water is natural sea water that the aquarium shop has modified to make sure the levels are correct and safe

Hey thanks for the reply! Yeah its definitely calibrated. i thought it may have been out too but sadly its not
Dumber question: did you buy the right type of refractometer? I am asking because I am the guy who bought a refractometer for beer -- not salinity -- and managed to raise my salinity to 45ppt before Randy gently pointed that I had been a complete doofus.

Do you have a backup refractometer or the always hated hydrometer?
On my way to get a new hydrometer now plus a few other things and will have to order a new refractometer. People in this town like to charge $200 for ebay spec refractometers
